The popularity of this winter recreation facility is probably down to the stunning views of White River Canyon and Mt. Hood. As well as enjoying the views, dogs and their owners can get out on one of the cross-country skiing or snow shoe trails. There's parking for 200 vehicles on site, so you should be able to find somewhere to park up, but to avoid the crowds during peak winter season, you and Fido should try to visit mid-week. Dog Mountain Trail Hiking the dog-friendly, six-mile Dog Mountain Trail in Cook, WA is a great way to spend some quality time with your pup. There is also a one-mile loop trail to the summit that provides an excellent opportunity to view the western portion of the Columbia River Gorge. Choose the eastern trail for an easier climb through wildflower fields or the western trail for a more strenuous climb through dense forests. While children and leashed pets are allowed, they’re not recommended due to the challenging conditions—hikers must cross the glacial Sandy River, which has strong currents and no bridge. Hood River Waterfront Trail The Hood River Waterfront Trail is a 2.8-mile, dog-friendly paved trail that connects the Hook on the west side of the Hood River, OR waterfront to the Best Western Hotel on the east side. One of the easier hikes in the area, it's a great way to see the river up close and keep Fido's toenails short with a wander on the pavement.
