Dog Friendly Hiking Trails in Canada

Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site is a dog-friendly park in Caledonia, NS. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you on one of the many hiking trails. There are easy and moderate loops that offer great views of the water and forest, or you can try one of the in-and-out trails. The Mersey Meadow, Hemlocks and Hardwoods, and Gold Mines trails are self-guided and the informative panels throughout provide details about the natural and cultural resources the park protects.

Gorge Park, or Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook, is a pet-friendly recreational spot in Coaticook, QC. From snowshoe adventures during winter to hiking the famous hanging bridge during summer, people and pups will find beauty and fun in this park whenever they choose to visit. The suspended walkway in the park is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America and is a sight to behold. If you decide to cross with your canine, you'll be treated to epic views of the gorge below. The bridge can be accessed via the Gorge Trail and is part of the Foresta Lumina experience. This section of the park is only open during the summer.

Mount Royal Park in Montreal is dog-friendly. The park features a popular trail that's a perfect nature escape from city life. The trail stretches for miles around the area, giving you and your pooch plenty to explore. Dogs must be on leash at all times, and owners must pick up after their pet.

Prince Albert National Park is a dog-friendly park in Waskesiu Lake, SK. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails and on most beaches outside of buoyed swimming areas. There are 17 trails of various lengths that range from easy to difficult.

Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge is a dog-friendly bridge within a 617-acre forest in North Vancouver, BC. Fearless Fido is welcome to join you as you cross the narrow suspension bridge 50 meters above the forest floor. Be aware that when several people are on the bridge at the same time, it will be prone to swaying! Once you brave the crossing, you will be rewarded with three trails to choose from- one takes you to a swimming area, another to Twin Falls, and the last option brings you to Rice Lake.

Signal Hill National Historic Site is pet-friendly. This St. John's landmark is a great place for a hike with your pooch. The highlight of this great overlook on the coast is a bronze statue of a Newfoundland next to a Labrador, commemorating the breeds’ first home. Dogs are welcome if they are on a leash and all mess is cleaned up after them. Signal Hill is open every day of the week from 10am to 6pm.

Parc Jean-Paul Forand Ecological Park, located in Shefford, QC, is a beautiful park with trails ideal for you and Fido. Take your best friend for a hike along Sarsaparilla, Violet, Surette, Fougere and Savoyane Trails which lead you along a 3.9 mile moderately trafficked loop. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you when exploring this beautiful area on foot.

Jackie Parker Park is a large open space where Fido can romp off-leash. The Park is best for walking, ball throwing, and playing with multiple dogs. Jackie Parker features granular and natural paths, access to water, partial lighting, and snow removal in certain sections. The Park is not fenced. Dogs must be cleaned up after and licensed. Owners should have voice control of their pet and have a leash on hand. Jackie Parker Park is open daily from 5am to 11pm.

Dundas Valley Conservation Area in Hamilton, ON is dog-friendly. Located on the Niagara Escarpment, this 40-kilometre trail system provides a connection to the Bruce Trail. Leashed dogs are welcome to join their owners on the trail, as long as they are well-behaved and cleaned up after.

The largest park within Western Prince Edward Island, in Malpeque, PE, Cabot Beach Provincial Park, is dog friendly! Cabot Beach features a large day-use area and supervised swimming on the scenic bay. Leashed dogs are allowed to explore the property and the beach, provided their owners clean up after them. Please note that dogs aren't allowed on the beach from April 1st to October 15th.

Eramosa Karst Conservation Area in Hamilton, ON is dog-friendly. Leashed dogs are welcome to join their owners at this unique natural area filled with underground caves and streams, meadows and forests. This natural gems is a great location for hiking and appreciating nature. Dog owners are reminded to clean up any mess to preserve the cleanliness of the area.

Mosquito Creek Park welcomes Fido to join you for a walk in North Vancouver, BC. Stroll along the meandering Mosquito Creek Trail amongst deciduous trees offering plenty of shade. Several ponds can also be found throughout this pet-friendly park. Be on the lookout for signage indicating which areas are dog-free zones and on-leash versus leash-optional zones, as the rules vary throughout the park.

Fido is welcome to join you on the Trails at Mont-Comi Park in Saint-Donat, QC! Leashed dogs can accompany you on the pet-friendly National Trail or any mountain pathway. Please remember that dogs are permitted only during the summer and fall; they are not allowed on the trails in winter.

The stunning 272 feet waterfall can be viewed a number of ways for every age and ability, including a paved walking trail with a viewing platform, a suspension bridge, and a cable car.

Hermitage Park is best for playing with multiple dogs, throwing the ball, and off-leash walks. The Park's path is mixed, with paved paths cleared of snow when necessary. It also boasts water access. There is no fencing around the off-leash area of Hermitage Park. Dogs must be cleaned up after and licensed during their visit. Owners should have voice control of their pet and have a leash on hand. Hermitage Park is open daily from 5am to 11pm.

With magnificent views and nearly 950 miles (1500 km) of trails along with valleys, mountains, glaciers, forests, meadows and rivers, Banff National Park has plenty of areas for you to explore with Fido. Dogs are welcome on many of the trails, but not all. Just remember that dogs must be leashed at all times, no matter where in the park you are, and it is imperative to the health of wildlife that you clean up after your pup.

Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens in Niagara Falls, ON is dog friendly. Open since 1936, pups are welcome to join their owners on the pet-friendly pathways that wind around nearly 100 acres of European-style gardens, including the rose garden, which is home to more than 2,400 roses. The School of Horticulture is there too, which teaches the public all that goes into maintaining the beautiful grounds of the area.

Parc écoforestier de Johnville is a dog-friendly park and trail in Cookshire, QC, where your leashed dog is welcome to join you. This park boasts 5.8 kilometers of hiking trails, 8.5 kilometers of ski and snowshoe trails, and over 25 interpretation panels provide information on the peat bogs, the most recent glacial era, and the eskers. This park has been maintained by the JWCC - the Johnville Woodland Conservation Corporation - since 1989.
