Menu suffers from post-pandemic shrinkage
St. Augustine Fish CampWas our second visit after a couple years. Had the captains platter again- many restaurants have taken a noticeable inflation hit. Last time we got a mountain of seafood - one dish easily shareable with leftovers- with numerous large pieces of codfish. This time we scarfed down all the fish “bites” and clam strips - still all very tender and fresh tasting with delicious hush puppies, but voluminous platter gone from the menu & still paid $18. Too bad. Same nice view from deck, kind service staff & accommodating to my 2 big dogs, but the thrill was gone. They
Have an attractive indoor seafood bar for choosing whole ocean catch, but makes the indoor seating area smell too fishy for eating, for any fisherman who is spoiled by their own odor-free fresh catch.

Don’t expect much
The Smart Stay InnEven if you factor in the great price, the decor & breakfast are cheap & barely functional, even if on a budget. Didn’t realize I was such a snob, but I could hardly scoop my scrambled eggs with rickety “doll house” size utensils. The breakfast lobby is a long outdoor walk from the external access room door. It was 45 degrees the morning I was there. I’m amazed at the enthusiastic reviews. And noisy I-95 traffic ALL night, even at the back of the building. The gated dog park was the size of a standard hotel room, not fun to my dog. Thin walls: dog rooms only on first floor with creaking feet on ceiling. Spend a little more & stay closer into town (same road) at The Southern Inn, which has a huge city size dog park where my dog can fetch at top speed, and they provide dog beds, bowls and gift bag for each pooch. I brought 2 with plenty of room in a quiet room location.

Compass Hotel by Margaritaville Anna Maria SoundAttractive surroundings and decor. Quiet rooms, comfy beds, fluffy and copious pillows and linens. Quality TV and cable channels. Great buffet and helpful desk staff.

Well priced
Ramada by Wyndham Venice Hotel VeneziaLarge, quiet tidy room. Slightly older decor but well kept up & no up charge for 2 pets.

All the amenities for the travelling Dog Lover
Southern Oaks InnUpdated modest style rooms are comfortable, spotless very quiet with thick concrete walls and in good working order. Large off leash grassy fenced dog play pen. Very attentive staff; helped carry my luggage to 2nd floor NO elevator. Soft dog mattresses & water bowls supplied in each room. AC noisy but effective. Thick mattress and warm bedding. Continual complimentary hotel shuttle takes you to the Old town center. Average breakfast. Large vehicle parking.
