Cute Family Motel

Cedar Lodge Motel

This is a vintage roadside type motel with about 14 units. It is a family operation and you may be checked in my the mom or the son or another family member. They are incredibly helpful and offer information such as directions to the local falls. The rooms are rather small and although very clean, they are a bit old and dated, but that is some of the charm. There is large bird enclosure and BBQ area at the back of the parking area. One bird will come right up to you and talk to you. SO Cute! Around 10PM the No Vacancy sign goes on and I suspect the family goes to bed, so get there before then. I have stayed three times now and it suits my needs and my Shiba Inu perfectly.

Great stopover in a cute little town

Travelodge by Wyndham Dunsmuir

One problem with staying in small towns (like Dunsmuir, CA) is that if you arrive by car later in the evening you may not find food. This clean, neat, newer motel has a diner in the parking lot that is open 24 hours. In fact, that is where you go to check in to the motel. It means that the attendant is there 24 hours as well. Food pickup is 24 hours as well. I did pickup because I had my Shiba Inu with me and didn't want to leave her in the room. The rooms are good size, and quiet considering it is very close to the freeway. Add to that reasonable rates and I will be back!
