Okay in a pinch

Hotel Media Luna

The location is great, right in the center of all the restaurants and museums, but there are some issues with this hotel to recommend it. First is the lack of parking. You have to find a spot on the street or pay for parking if you can find a lot to park in. Second, the building is old and in need of repairs. Most of the rooms require a walk up a set of stairs, which is not easy with luggage or dogs. The owner is super nice and very helpful and they do allow dogs without any fees.

If location is important to you, then this is your place. You literally can walk out the door and be in the center of everything. If you have dogs, then this place might work for you. It worked for us, except there are no grassy areas to walk your dogs, so that was a challenge for us. We only booked one night, and you probably need a few more days there to enjoy all the city has to offer. The room, although tiny, was tastefully decorated, but in need of new decorative pillows that were tattered and unraveling. We also had an issue with the shower not working. Prior guests have complained about noise, but we did not experience any noise.

Filthy hotel

La Quinta by Wyndham Houston Bush IAH South

The hotel lobby was nice and clean, but once you get past that in the actual corridor and the rooms, it is filthy. The pool was green and unusable. The carpeting throughout was badly stained and black in some areas and the building was in general disrepair. There is a sign posted in the lobby that they are undergoing renovations, which are sorely needed. The door in the back of the hotel that is supposed to be locked 24/7 was never locked so anybody could get into the hotel via that back door. It didn't work the entire time we were there. The room was well-appointed. That's why I gave this review two bones (stars), but if you look closely, the room we were in was just superficially cleaned and there was major dirt in areas. The shower wasn't good and the water ran hot and cold and in between for every shower. The only good thing is that it was close to the airport. The breakfast was very basic.

Never Again!

Motel 6 Knoxville TN - North

The only positive about this dump is the woman at the front desk. She is really nice and helpful. However, we are not at the Motel 6 to make friends, we are there to get a night (or more) of sleep. This is supposed to be a non-smoking motel. When we opened the door, the smell of smoke was overwhelming. When we stepped inside the room, our shoes stuck to the vinyl, wood-look, flooring. I ran back to the front desk and the woman behind the counter said all the rooms are the same. She said they cannot enforce the no-smoking policy because they take cash with no deposits for the rooms so they get and "undesirable" clientele that doesn't follow the rules. We were only staying one night, so I walked back to the room to make the best of it. We also had a light over the sink that didn't work, so the sink area was very dark. There was mold all over the shower stall and the ceiling and the cover to the exhaust fan was lying on the floor next to the toilet. I did my best to rig the cover over the fan and realized there was no soap or towels in the room. I had to go to the front desk again to get them. Anyway, the place is just plain disgusting. There is nothing nice about it. I stayed in this exact same Motel 6 just a few years ago and it was fine. It was a no-frill motel, just as we expected. This time around it was vile and I mean vile. I don't know how the Knoxville Health Department hasn't closed this cesspool down. It needs to be torn down and rebuilt with an entirely new building that is how bad it is.
