Great place to stay
Baymont by Wyndham Yakima RiverfrontThe hotel is right next to the river and the multi use trail that stretches for a dozen miles or so. Lots of grass in back. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and well equipped. Breakfast was very good offering some healthier options in addition to the standard scrambled eggs and sausage fare.
Great place
Ontario InnThis is an old fashioned family run roadside motel from a bygone era. However, everything in our room was modern, clean, and functional. The room was spotless, and the beds very comfortable. Behind the main building there is a mostly fenced in (missing a gate) beautifully maintained yard. The hotel is on a busy road, but there are sidewalks as well as pedestrian crossing, complete with either flags or warning lights. There is a nice park a few blocks away, as well as quiet residential areas for longer walks.
Old property barely okay
Wingate by Wyndham New Castle - Glenwood SpringsThe hotel is old, and clearly has been neglected. About half of the furnishings in our room were falling apart, and the walls are in need of patching and repainting. However, the room was spotless, the bed was very comfortable, and everything worked. We were surprised by the absence of a coffee maker.
When we arrived we found that the electronic locking mechanism to one of the outside doors was hanging from the wall by its wires, and anyone could just enter the hotel. The next morning, however, we discovered that it was fixed with duct tape. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great, near a nice multi-use trail offering a pleasant walk with great views of the river and the canyon walls. There are sidewalks so a walk around the neighborhood is perfectly safe.
Great place to stay
Best Western Brigham City Inn & SuitesThe pet friendly rooms are all near an outside side door. If they add a fenced in area, that would be over the top. Great neighborhood for walking, with sidewalks everywhere. Our room was modern, well equipped, and spotless. Bed was reasonably comfortable. The staff was just super friendly and helpful. Did I mention the fresh cookies (for humans) at check-in? Maybe I shouldn't. Breakfast was typical American full breakfast; loved the coffee machine.
What a nice place
Lamplighter LodgeThis is an old roadside motel, but our room has been updated to include everything one would expect these days from a budget motel, and then some. Room was clean and comfy, with a decent fridge, microwave, and well provisioned coffee corner. They have a large fenced yard for the dog to run around. The town has sidewalks so walking is safe. A number of restaurants within easy walking distance. Staff very friendly. Highly recommend.
Ok for one night
Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Abilene an IHG HotelOur check-in process was incredibly long. The staff was having IT issues, not their fault really, but it took a while. Both people working the reception desk were friendly, apologetic for the inconvenience, and kept up a good sense of humor. The hotel and the furnishing is old, but everything is clean and functional. No sidewalks, but the parking lot, as well as a couple adjacent parking lot can do in a pinch. Very large empty grassy field behind the hotel for exercising, but no fence. Very good American breakfast.
Good location, old smelly hotel
Quality Inn & Suites Benton - DraffenvilleThe room smelled as if someone spilled a pint of cheap perfume. We found the bed rather uncomfortable. Nice quiet street to walk the dog, with empty parking lots (on a weekday morning) for a nice long walk.
Ok for an overnight
Econo LodgeThe hotel is old. The first room we were issued had only one bad, was dingy and smelled bad. The second room was more pleasant. The amenities were minimal, the mattress ok but not great. Breakfast was cereal toast bagels pastry and OJ. There are no sidewalks for walking, but one can safely walk along the access road in front, plus the parking lots of the adjacent properties. There is a big empty field just beyond the next door bank, plus a utilities right of way running behind the hotel that can serve as a walking trail, in a pinch.
Clean and comfortable
Holiday Inn Express Oak Grove an IHG HotelStaff was super nice. Sidewalk leading to a residential area made for a nice safe walk. Room was clean, modern. Breakfast was excellent with a number of healthier choices. Super Walmart 2 blocks away for provisions.
Wonderful old fashioned motel
The Village Inn HarrisonburgThe motel is old, probably close to a hundred years by now, however, everything in our room, except for the slightly uneven floor was up to date, functional, and immaculately clean. There is plenty of places for a potty stop, however, a longer walk requires going across the busy road and about 100 yards to the left, where you will find an entrance to a church. Loop counter clockwise around the church and you find it is connected to the county fairgrounds. Unless the church or fairground is having an event, there are several miles of zero traffic road for a nice long hike. The staff is super nice. We opted for the breakfast buffet which included the usual fare, plus a few local specialties, and that's all I'm going to say, except that it was fairly tasty. Will definitely return.
Nice place with friendly staff
Hampton Inn & Suites MahwahThere is plenty of grassy places for a potty break, but a longer walk is a challenge. The hotel is on a corner of an incredibly busy highway and a smaller street, but with plenty of traffic. There are no sidewalks. There are two facilities of some warehouses and office space next door and across the street, where a loop around both parking lots makes a nice mile long hike. Other than the pedestrian hostile environment, the other reason for a less than perfect score is that our room door (room 110) was next to impossible to open from the inside. Good thing we experienced no emergency evacuations.
Very good for the price
La Quinta by Wyndham Memphis WolfchaseOur room was comfortable and reasonably priced. The pet fee was not outrageous. Staff very friendly. Nice area on the side of the building with grass and some shrubs for potty stop. Hotel has a bag dispenser, but sadly there were a few accidents, so mind your step. Hotel is on a not terribly busy street with sidewalk so a longer walk is possible and safe. Room had a fridge and microwave as well as coffee maker. Human breakfast was ok, but nothing spectacular. Several restaurant to choose from within short distance, including a Burger King next door and at least one across the street.
Clean and reasonably comfortable
Quality Inn Troutville - Roanoke NorthWe had a ground floor room in the back. Very easy access to a small patch of grass across the parking lot. No need to go through COVID infested corridors, lobbies, and elevators. The mattress was reasonably comfortable. The room was spotless. Cracker Barrel next door is easily accessible via a short flight of stairs between the two parking lots.
