Gem in the middle of NOWHERE, NE

Best Western Plus Sidney Lodge

We got stranded during a blizzard and checked into this hotel located literally in the middle of nowhere. If you get stuck I HIGHLY recommend it. There is nothing around for hundreds of miles, but it serves a purpose. Dogs are fine with pet fee of $20/night. Rooms were clean. Staff was helpful and understanding of the situation of all wayward travelers. There is a pool and hot tub. The only real issue is that they do not care if barking dogs are left unattended so I did have a spat with another guest over being awakened by her dog. Management did not take issue with her choice. I believe that if your dog cannot be left because it will throw a never-ending fit then it should not be. Mine does not bark when left. The "unattended dog" rule is hard, but should be fair to those who want to sleep at 6am.

Big Downtown Spot

Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City an IHG Hotel

Very downtown SLC location with friendly staff and big rooms. They are quite dog friendly. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. The restaurant was open late and served good, albeit pretty expensive, fare. We came in quite late and left early the next day. My only reason for giving 4 stars is that their early morning is not early at all. Everyone seemed slow and pretty sleepy at 7:30 am - kinda odd for a downtown, busy location. And no place to take the dog, although that was to be expected.

Meh.

Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain

This hotel is in a great town in a fabulous location. Staff are nice and helpful. The hotel itself is dated and decayed. The room was ok, but of course the “dog rooms” have no view, or a view of the parking garage to be exact. Do not be fooled by the description “city view”!
There is no place near the hotel to take the dog. The waterfront walk is wonderful, however my dog has more urgent needs and could care less about a view when she walks.
Beds and amenities were fine. Nothing special and the rooms are spendy for what you get.

Real treat!!

Element Omaha Midtown Crossing

What a terrific hotel. Amenities galore. Pets very welcome, not just tolerated. The room was way beyond my expectations. There was a fully appointed kitchen. Super comfy beds with lovely soft/firm pillows. An enormous shower in a very clean, extra large bathroom. I was so tired and so relieved by the nice treatment of the front desk staff. Zero issues. Extremely high praise well-deserved.

The Worst!

Red Roof Inn Cleveland Airport-Middleburg Heights

All I can say is “Don’t!!” This is an awful hotel in a perfectly horrid location (even if you need to stay near the airport). It is dirty. People literally ran up and down the hallway outside our door at 2am which made the dog nuts. The room was dirty, loud, very poorly lit, and smelled of smoke despite all of the signs claiming it was SMOKE FREE. The beds were uncomfortable with limited blankets and the pillows stank.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE

Hampton Inn & Suites Toledo Perrysburg

I would not give this place a bone. We arrived at 11p in the pouring rain. I had called to let them know we would be late and an extremely surly woman answered the phone. She could have cared less. Yes, pandemic. Yes, they are short staffed and she also had to do laundry. No, not my problem. If a hotel CHAIN is open during a pandemic for travelers and/or essential workers we should be given habitable accommodations. Not The Ritz accommodations, but HOT water (not lukewarm) and AIR of which there was none. The dog panted and paced the whole night because she was so hot. I came very close to going out and sleeping in my car just so I could cool her off and get some fresh air.
When we realized just how horrid the room was I called down to the front desk and was not offered any "fix" or another room. I was told that the manager would be alerted to the problems in the morning. The manager was not too happy when I said I was refusing to pay for a night of hell.
Do not stay here.
To add insult, as I was trying to maneuver a very full and very broken luggage carrier the dog's leash slipped out of my hand and the surly woman told me to hold on to her because "we have children here". At midnight I saw no children. All I said was that I do not own a child hungry dog. I was livid and exhausted. What would you say?

They try?

Quality Inn & Suites Elko

If you can avoid Elko I would. Kind of gross, but mostly because people are pigs and do not pick up after their dogs. They have a decent fenced in area right next to the smoking section. If you are like me and sleep lightly DO NOT STOP! There is a train that runs behind the hotel all night and it is not a pleasant sound. Staff were grumpy and very unhelpful about places to eat. Room was adequately clean. Typical "dog room" from my experiences. 3,300 miles of them!

La Quinta has really gone downhill

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Des Moines West Clive

This place is a literal pit. Once again some things can be overlooked due to the pandemic, but I could not even take a shower. I had to take a bath on the nasty no-slip cover in the tub. ICK! Towels and pillows etc were awful. I complained about the tub, but the sweet, young men at the desk wearing their masks half over their faces had no suggestions. Mt traveling companion just got another room. That was just wrong! We got out of Clive as fast as possible the next morning. NO BONES!

Surprisingly nice

Best Western Plus Frontier Inn

Cheyenne is beautiful. This hotel and the staff were very friendly. Decent dog space and very easy to find. The room was clean and the dog was happy. You can hear truck noise from the proximity to the freeway, but that was the only negative thing I can report.

Lovely and quiet

Cresthill Suites Syracuse

This is a gem of a spot with very friendly staff and clean, nicely appointed space. Last night of 5 day hotels we upgraded to have two large beds. The dog was allowed to roam all of the lush grass. Due to pandemic I was not expecting too much. Cresthill really did right by us and the dog. Right off the freeway!
