Dingy and down-at-heel
Holiday Inn Roanoke-Tanglewood-Rt 419&i581 an IHG HotelThe most to be said for this place is it’s just ok. The place is tired and not very well maintained, and a bit dirty here and there. That said, we’ve stayed three times because the location is very convenient for our route and there aren’t a lot of good choices in the area. So each time we say “it’s only one night”. If you go with that mentality it’s fine.
They provide earplugs for a reason
Aloft Charlotte City CenterIf you want to be able to sleep, stay somewhere else! Complimentary earplugs on the nightstand tell you all you need to know.
We love Aloft hotels and stay at the one in Glen Allen, VA regularly. It's terrific and super dog-friendly.
The welcome at the Aloft in Charlotte was equally warm. The hotel is looking a bit well-worn, but we can get past that. But – and it's a HUGE but – what they don't tell you is the location is Party Central for 2o-something crowd AND there's an open-air rooftop nightclub right below you.
The noise level was simply indescribable. The bongo drumming continued until well past 2AM, and the general noise continued even later. Then the party-goers came into the hotel to finally go to bed - running in the hallways, shouts, hoots, loud conversations.
I understand there's not much the management can do about their location or guests' behavior, and like I say I'm a fan of Aloft overall. But if you want to actually be able to sleep, look elsewhere.
