Nice Rooms But Very Difficult Check In and Parking
Excalibur Hotel & CasinoThe rooms were nicer than I remember and locations was dog friendly, but check-in was challenging as MGM requires you to now install and use the MGM Rewards app to check in, and get your digital key and parking pass. The app could not locate the reservation as it was made through BringFido and calls to Hotel Staff for help were useless. Required a call to Bring Fido to find the right confirmation number. (Checking in without the MGM Rewards app means standing in hours-long lines to check in and there is no close entry location to park your car and unload luggage and pet.) Hotel nickels and dimes for everything - valet is another $35 along with parking and "resort fees" of $80. BringFido was great help in finding the confirmation number on the backend that allowed check-in and parking but MGM's requirements to use the application for parking and check-in needs some re-evaluation. It is not convenient and doesn't work if you booked via another booking site. Long waits for international travelers also indicate its a bad design and not user-friendly. In the 106 degree + heat this really made for a horrible checkin experience.

Great Lodge and Staff
Mammoth Mountain InnStaff was great with warnings about removing all "scented" items that might attract bears to your vehicle and spots near entry doors for unloading and loading. Also warned of coyotes and other critters which are very near the lodge. Smallish rooms but great location. Our building provided covered parking . Our dog loved the hikes to Devil's Postpile and was able to ride the shuttle in a carrier. Muzzles are required otherwise, but aren't practical given the dog needs to pant so bring a carrier for the shuttle ride to the postpile. Bus/shuttle drivers also warned of the incoming hurricane and rains which were not yet coming up in news and weather alerts.

Good Basic Room - Great Breakfast
California InnWe had a nice, large room that opened onto the pool and grassy area. Great breakfast.

Suitable Basic Room- hotel between railroad tracks and freeway
Motel 6 Merced CA - NorthCounter staff were very helpful and gave us a room away from the freeway. However there are train tracks on the other side so bring ear plugs! Its true as others have posted that there are many dog poops NOT picked up - this isn't a staff problem but a guest problem (unless stray dogs and we saw none.) Lets not ruin this for everyone and their pets. If you bring your dog, pick up its poops!
