Not impressed
The Humane Society of St. Lucie CountyWe were looking to adopt a dog. We put in an application, and waited a few weeks to hear back. When we received a call back, that dog had been adopted out, because another family had a fenced in yard and we did not. (Which was fine. We ended up adopting from HALO in Vero Beach.) This facility in St. Lucie needs to pay more attention to cleaning. It smelled awful. There was one poor dog there (a little white dog with a bad skin condition). He was precious looking, but I do not know how well he is being taken care of. His skin was bright red. The poor thing looked so depressed. No one was paying any attention to him. This Humane Society was totally different than HALO. The HALO location in Vero was spotless. I wish they would transfer that little white dog to the HALO shelter where he might be better taken care of. I hope someone adopts him.
Loved it
Vero Beach Dog ParkI bring my dog here almost every night. He loves running with the other dogs and getting rid of excess energy. All of the other owners I met have been very friendly, and clean up after their dogs. I have only seen one aggreseive dog, no fights. The owners and/or the dogs tend to resolve it on their own. There are two sections - one for small dogs and one for large dogs. I go to the big dog side, but there are some little dogs that come to the big dog side and like playing with the big guys. They can hold their own. I do wish there were more shade canopies. Remember to spray yourself down with OFF before coming. There are little gnats (at least in the evening) that will bite your legs and drive you crazy. There is a gate that goes out into the water that some people let there dogs swim in.
