charming inn full of dogs!

Estancia La Jolla Hotel Spa

I picked this spot solely because of location (it’s across the street from UCSD dorms). It’s not cheap, and in addition to the room there’s a daily parking charge AND an undisclosed daily resort fee-so add @$70/day to your rate. The inn is friendly and charming with grounds, gardens, an evening restaurant with outside dining, live music, fireplace-AND you can bring your dog everywhere but the pool. I did-and at every meal there were at least 3 or 4 other guests with their dogs. Food is excellent. You are a quick walk from the glider area, which always has lots going on. Other than the aforementioned fees, I marked them down abit because my room -2nd price tier: 2Q with veranda-was notably “tired”. When I initially opened the door, the first thing I saw was a large stain on the seat of the upholstered chair. One of the blinds no longer had a means to raise it (so the room ended up being pretty dark), and the other blind (roller shade) was torn and visibly dirty. Oddly, the bathroom was much better-as if they refurbished it but not the room. I was offered a choice of veranda (with parking lot view) or garden level room which you enter/exit directly into their garden. It was a great set up for the dog, but the room itself felt damp and musty. I did wonder whether these are the “dog” rooms, and if I had not had my dog with me, whether I would’ve gotten a fresher, brighter room. Having said that, I would stay there again.
