My husband and I like to travel and explore with our dog, Morty. Morty is a mixed breed we adopted from a shelter in Orlando, Fl. He looks and acts like a fox. We spend most of our time in central Florida but we like to road trip out of state as well.

Cute old hotel at a great location

East Bay Inn Historic Inns of Savannah Collection

We booked kind of at the last minute, as we were passing through Savannah just for the evening, and this was pretty much our only choice in the part of town we wanted to see. It ended up being a really lovely hotel with a lot of charm in the perfect area to walk around to shops and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and as far as i could tell there was no additional pet fee that we had to pay (we booked through bring Fido.) our room was clean and very cozy, I loved the tall ceilings and area to walk around the room without feeling cramped like so many modern hotels. Bay Street is pretty busy, but it’s easy to cross to reach a cute grassy park area and the river front which was a nice place to take a walk. There are lots of dog friendly restaurants in the area as well, we had no trouble finding somewhere to eat very nearby. The hotel itself is very old and of course there were other pups staying there, so it’s not exactly a quiet place. There is a lot of noise that can’t be helped - thin walls and old creaky floors, plus the traffic outside, but for me this was understandable considering the age of the building and the part of town we were in. Overall we really liked staying here and so did our pup.

Yummy food in a walkable part of the city

The Cotton Exchange Tavern

we sat outside and enjoyed a nice meal in the evening. the menu was very similar to a lot of places nearby - mostly seafood and fried food. it’s a nice spot for people watching but the outdoor dog-friendly seating is also just an open sidewalk, not an enclosed patio, so if your pup gets anxious or distracted by lots of people walking by, this might not be the best spot. Our pup did ok, but this spot faces the river, and he did get very spooked when a ship went by halfway through our meal and blew a very loud horn. otherwise the food was great, staff was friendly, and they brought us a bowl of water for the pup.
