Great garden, lackluster stop for big dogs
Myriad Botanical Gardens Dog ParkThe garden was worth a walk to stretch legs but dogs are not allowed in the children's area, even on leash, nor the splashpad, so nowhere to cool off. The pond was full of koi, ducks, and geese that came close looking for treats, which was mentally stimulating for our pup, but the ledge is too high for Fido to get his paws wet. I don't know if they allow dogs in the conservatory bc it was closed for renovation. The actual "dog release area" was smaller than most dog parks we've stopped at on our travels, but with some little hills to add interest & pretty clean when we were there. All in all, I'm glad our pup is still tired from our vacation, bc this wouldn't have worked as a place to burn off energy before a long drive.
Great stop for dogs & kids on a long boring stretch of highway
Golden Spike Tower & Visitor CenterThe stretch between Denver and eastern Nebraska is long & tedious. This is a fantastic place to stop, with a large fenced area in which they are encouraged to run off leash (so long as owners keep a watch for behavior & poop duty). There's a wooden train to play on/in, and dog treats by the front entrance. Fido is allowed to go through the gift shop & visitor center, even up to the observation deck, with a friendly former rail yard worker who will tell you about the operations.
