Go somewhere else
Red Roof Inn Des MoinesRooms are okay and no carpet is a plus, but the pics look better than the actual hotel. Dirty on the outside, construction all around. No real place for dogs although they accept them. Looks like they might be trying to put more areas in, but not even close to being ready. Just getting into the place is challenging. A grassy spot on the north side hadn't been mowed and was full of weeds and who knows what else. The refrigerator in my room didn’t have an ice box, so the girl at the front desk put my ice packs in the employee freezer, as I was traveling across 6 states. She was very accommodating but at 5:30 am when I needed to leave, the guy at the front desk could barely speak to me because he had been awakened by the buzzer. They discontinued breakfast due to Covid, so they say.

Convenient location off I-80
My Place Hotel-Altoona/Des Moines IAGood stop on road trip from Colorado to Ohio. Second time I stayed here. Has everything I need, fridge, microwave, elevator and friendly staff.
