Good dog hotel
La Quinta by Wyndham KearneyStayed here 2x this month. First time was room nearest elevator, which causes my dog to bark every time the bell rings. Next time, asked for a different room. Required to sign a notice that you get 3 strikes before getting kicked out & fined for excessive barking. Don't let that scare you though, as both times we were there, nearly every room on the 2nd floor had at least 1, and sometimes 2 dogs. Actually pretty quiet both times. Breakfast included is ok. Site outside for dogs including bags. A solid 3/4 bone dog hotel.
quiet hiking
Shawnee National Forestloved the trails here and stayed in dog-friendly cabins - several ticks were found on dog and people, but that's to be expected - the Forest is so expansive that we rarely encountered another person- beautiful and quiet
many trails
Starved Rock State Parkmuch wide open space on the river, and many trails that lead to beautiful canyons - trails mostly good with some rocky areas - bring your bug spray and plenty of water- park often closes parking early on weekends- best to check status on Starved Rock facebook site updates
