Wonderful!

Monon Trail

This is a black-topped walking trail amid scenery that varies depending on which section of the trail you choose. I like areas with some shade and some wildflowers, my little dog likes that too because there are more dog scents to take in. We do a mile down and a mile back. There are frequent mile markers, for the benefit of dog owners and the other walkers and the bicyclists. Of course you can't forget your leash with all those possible encounters! But the traffic is civilized - no one's going to take aim and run you down. Many people are genial - many are "plugged in" and don't greet you. ......... Since this goes right through the city, there are convenient places to buy refreshments. ....... Poop bags and trash barrels are provided, and in summer there are occasional porta-potties for humans "caught short" away from other facilities. Good parking. It's a great part of our repertoire of walks.

Great place

Humane Society of Indianapolis Dog Park - Permanently Closed

This is a super place for dogs and owners. Well designed and well run, lots of tennis balls from some member's tennis center, picnic tables for owners to socialize around in the shade. Good water supply. Large play area - it never seems crowded no matter how many dogs are there. My 20-lb bichon/poodle mix doesn't like charging around elbow-to-elbow with big dogs, so then we use the agility section for her (and often other small dogs). We play ball in there, or she likes jumping around on the agility stations, or maybe lying up on the platform to survey the world. .......... Parking is good. I'm retired, and don't live too far away, so I'm able to keep up with the shifting times when her friends are likely to be around. Even the squirrels in the trees are entertaining, of course. There's a low area that gets churned into mud so during mud season if we're not in the agility area we go back to the (north) side of the park which is less used. ....... It's a wonderful place - myself and the dog both think so. Membership requires proof of immunizations, of course, and very young puppies can't come. I believe day passes are available - worth checking on.
