Overbooked - pet owners beware

Best Western Plus Peoria

I booked a dog-friendly hotel room at this Best Western for two nights on Aug 30, 2018, since we needed a place to stay for a friend's wedding. The reservation was made over the phone and I was given a confirmation number. Upon arriving to the hotel on our reservation day (Oct, 12, 2018), after driving for 7.5 hours, we were told that the hotel was overbooked and they did not have a room available. They had our confirmation number in the system along with our name, but they had no room for us - so they chose to send us to a different hotel for one night (of the two nights we’ll be down there), which they said they would compensate us for.

However, we have to check out of the backup hotel (the Mark Twain) at 10am/11am the next morning. Check-in at the Best Western isn't until 3pm. The friend's wedding is at 4pm that day. Since my husband is a part of the wedding party, rather than changing into his suit near wedding time (4pm), he'll be stuck in that uncomfortable, sweaty suit from about 9am until the wedding is over, likely 15 hours.

In a stroke of "luck," we didn’t wind up bringing the dogs with us on this trip (one pup was sick so I stayed home to care for her), so no need for a dog-friendly room. If we had brought the pups, the nearest dog-friendly hotel with a room available was 40+ minutes away. This would have been a major inconvenience due to wedding logistics and I would be even more angry than I am right now.
