Comfy and dog friendly

Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Kearney

Liked: Staff was very friendly and helpful. Check-in was a breeze. I found the bed to be fairly comfortable and the pillows were nice, not flat and thin. Breakfast was a good spread. This hotel is dog friendly with dogs kept on the first floor when possible. Plenty of grass outside and treats in the lobby. Disliked: Not super quiet and the elevator had some noise and shaking that is a bit nerve wracking. Luckily it's only a 3-floor building. Kearney is always my stopping point when driving cross country to visit family. This hotel will definitely be my go-to from now on, especially when traveling with a dog.

My new go-to in Des Moines!

Best Western Plus Des Moines West Inn & Suites

From the outside this hotel didn't look amazing but I was pleasantly surprised. The lobby and rooms are really nice. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in and had lovely pillows, not flat little pancakes. The hotel was very quiet, and despite being right by an exterior door and a staircase, we weren't disturbed at all by noise from the other guests. And the front desk staff was very kind and efficient.

We brought a dog with us and this hotel not only has plenty of grassy areas for her to relieve herself, but some were big enough for her to actually play fetch on, which was amazing for a border collie after 10 hours in the car. Also, the local Hy-Vee is the most amazing grocery store I've ever been in. The variety available is astounding. It made eating healthy on a road trip very easy. This is my new go-to hotel for Des Moines now for when I travel cross-country. It's perfect for an overnight with a pet.
