Sawyer River Trail / Sawyer River Road Sawyer River Trail / Sawyer River Road is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Urban Forestry Center Urban Forestry Center offers dog-friendly hiking trails in Portsmouth, NH. The trails are popularly used for hiking, running, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The paths in the Urban Forestry Center give visitors views of native wildflowers, hardwood forests and a tidal saltmarsh. Fido is welcome to join you on the trails, but dogs must be kept on a leash. The park is 5,655 acres in total, with lovely panoramic views of Mount Monadnock, the White Mountains, Camel's Hump in Vermont and Pleasant Mountain in Maine.
