Posted by Billy Francis

Even though pet adoptions have been on the rise, there are still thousands of pups waiting to find forever homes. These adorable adoptable dogs are available this month at shelters and rescues across the country.

Little Horse

Make sure you have a bowl of water at the ready for your new best friend, because this lovable mutt is a Little Horse. A temporary resident of BC SPCA in Maple Ridge near Vancouver, he’s a one-eyed wonder with a real zest for life who loves nothing more than striding out on a hike or going for a dip in a swimming hole. Just like his equine cousins, he can be spooked by unexpected noises like loud cars and would prefer the quiet life away from crowds.

Slip on Little Horse’s harness and head to Yellow Dog Brewing Company. Every month, this brewery in nearby Port Moody creates batches of beers that are named after adoptable dogs at the BC SPCA. All sales from those beers go to animals in need.

If you want to gallop into the sunset with Little Horse, set up a meet and greet here. Adoption fees are $185.

The mission of BC SPCA is to “protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia.” The large organization with 44 locations helps around 100,000 animals in need every single year.

Chiquita is a senior dog with a big personality. She's currently taking up residence at Animal Rescue New Orleans, but she's ready to retire to her hacienda (aka your place).

Let loose with your new best friend at The Dog Levee, where she can run off leash.

Bring Chiquita home here. Adoption fees start at $100.

Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) was founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, when thousands of animals lost their homes and lives. Since the tragedy, ARNO has helped over 9,400 companion animals find loving homes in NOLA and the surrounding areas.

Dollie and Bear are a lovable pair who are staying with Little Victories Animal Rescue because their last home was destroyed by fire. Although these seniors stick together, they both have plenty of love left to give humans.

Enjoy the first road trip with your new duo from Ona to Huntington Pet Safe Dog Park.

If you think two is the magic number, add Dollie and Bear to your pack here.

Little Victories Animal Rescue aims to rescue homeless animals and rehabilitate them to help them find loving homes. This no-kill shelter has over 115 acres of land for dogs staying with them to explore.

Bean is ready to join your pack after her stay at Abandoned Pet Rescue in Fort Lauderdale. She’s an energetic hound who would love an active home with a backyard to play fetch in, but can also appreciate the finer things in life like an afternoon snuggling on the couch.

Unleash your jumping Bean at Happy Tails Dog Park at Seminole Park.

Make sure you’re the one to take this adorable pup home before you find out she’s Bean and gone. Find more information about adopting her here.

Abandoned Pet Rescue is one of the largest no-kill shelters in South Florida. They rescue and shelter thousands of abandoned or abused animals each year, and help find them new homes.

Fang and Fawkes are staying at Paws Shelter of Central Texas while they wait for a permanent home. Fang is a gentle boy who loves toys, fetching and sniffing the best scents in the yard. Fawkes is a sweet girl who loves to rest her head on people’s shoulders. Whether it’s playing in the backyard or sleeping through the night side by side, they enjoy nothing more than hanging out together - maybe you can tag along, too.

Take your new family members on a drive to the area’s premier pooch play area, Red Bud Isle.

Information on adopting Fang and Fawkes can be found here. Adoption fees are $200.

Paws Shelter of Central Texas is a no-kill shelter that believes in second chances. In addition to finding homes and rehabilitating dogs and cats, volunteers and employees head out into the local community to educate the public about animal homelessness.

"Do I shed? No comment." Photo by Family Dog Rescue

Balto is a gentle giant with a lot of love to give. If you have experience with big dogs, he could be the “pawfect” addition to your family. He’s still learning his manners at Family Dog Rescue in San Francisco, and would love a big yard to burn off his energy. He would be best suited in a home without small children.

Balto will want to move like lightning when he plays off leash at nearby McLaren Park.

Give Balto his forever home here. Adoption fees are $495.

From pups living in California’s overcrowded shelters to street dogs in Mexico, Family Dog Rescue is committed to finding homes for all canines, whatever their story. They save over 1,000 dogs per year from certain euthanasia and place them with loving families.

“Who wants to cross that bridge with me?” Photo by Homeward Animal Shelter

Harlee will have a great time at Yunker Farm Dog Park.

Are you ready to take Harlee home? Find her information here. Adoption fees are $200.

Homeward Animal Shelter has been bringing pets and people together since 1966. Providing a second chance for lost, abandoned and owner-surrendered animals, this awesome organization is committed to preventing overpopulation and finding a brighter future for animals in the Peace Garden State.
