Cool Summer Treats to Help Your Dog Beat the Heat

Posted by Erin Ballinger

There’s nothing quite as refreshing as an ice-cold snack in the heat of summer. We’ve whipped up some yummy frozen concoctions for dogs who need a cool treat. Serve them as a snack or for dessert following a grilled dog cheeseburger. We’re sure Fido will be grateful to go from a hot dog to a chilly dog!

Red, White & Blue Pupsicles

These frozen snacks are loaded with nutrients, and your pup will love the taste of Bowser Beer and the crunch of the frozen fruit. Since they are red, white and blue, they make the “pawfect” snack to give Fido on the 4th of July. We recommend using cute, bone-shaped silicone molds like this one from Amazon, but you could also prepare them in a standard ice tray.

Ingredients

  • 1 Bottle Bowser Beer
  • ¼ Cup Sliced Strawberries
  • ¼ Cup Blueberries

Pour Bowser Beer into molds or tray sections. Add strawberries and blueberries to each section. Freeze for at least 2 hours or until set.

The King of KONGs

These tasty treats are inspired by King of Rock n’ Roll Elvis Presley’s favorite snack: a peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich. We’ve combined all of those dog-friendly ingredients to make a delicious stuffing for a KONG Classic Toy that will keep Fido occupied and content for a while. Your hound dog will be cryin’ all the time for more!

Ingredients

  • ¼ Cup Peanut Butter
  • ⅓ Banana
  • 1 Slice Cooked Bacon, Crumbled
  • 1 KONG Classic Toy

Mash the banana and stir into peanut butter. Combine with bacon crumbles and stuff in KONG Classic Toy. Place the KONG in a bag or cover with plastic wrap and freeze for a couple of hours. Yields one stuffed toy.
