#AnimalStyle: Restaurant Chains and Drive-Thrus With Secret Menus for Dogs

Posted by Billy Francis

Drive-thru restaurants and chains with curbside service make for a quick and casual dining experience. Recognizing that our pooches love car rides even more than we do, a few “pupular” spots go the extra mile by offering a secret menu for dogs. Save Fido’s kibbles and treat him to a special snack delivered straight to his window at these nine pet-friendly eateries.

In-N-Out

In-N-Out Burger is well known for its (not so) secret menu. It even has its own hashtag: #AnimalStyle! Customers regularly opt for the fully loaded items from this wild list. What you may not know is that In-N-Out has a menu designed for your actual animal, too. Drive up and dig into canine specials like the Pup Patty (a plain, salt-free burger patty) or the Flying Dutchman (double beef and cheese).

Starbucks

Chances are, there’s a Starbucks drive-thru near you. Order Fido the off-menu item with the biggest canine cult following: the Starbucks Puppuccino. Baristas go through hours of intense training to get this one right. It involves taking the secret ingredient (whipped cream in a can) and masterfully twirling it into a little cup. As an added bonus, this treat won’t add a single dollar to your Double Double Fudge Bar Frappuccino.

Dairy Queen

A little goes a long way when it comes to feeding dogs a human treat. Pull up for Dairy Queen’s Pup Cup, a dollop of their regular sized serving of vanilla ice cream. It’s still enough to keep your pooch happy and doesn’t cost a dime.

Sonic Drive-In

Sonic is well known for its drive-in and drive-thru service. With the Sonic app, you can browse the menu, pay for your food and even select a pickup time remotely. The secret canine menu varies at each restaurant, but most will serve up a whipped cream dessert, a small scoop of vanilla ice cream or even a pooch-friendly burger patty. Many even offer dog treats crumbled on top. Every item for four-legged customers is free.

Shake Shack

A crowd favorite that’s considered a cut above other burger chains, Shake Shack has long been known for its pet-friendliness and delivers a serious contender for Fido’s favorite fast food to go. The Pooch-ini is a cup of custard mixed with Shackburger biscuits and a swirl of peanut butter. It’s so full of flavor that only large dogs are allowed to indulge in a whole one. Shake Shack will even sell you a bag of the Shackburger biscuits by Bocce’s Bakery. Furry customers will need to save up $3.75 for a Pooch-ini.

Lazy Dog

Lazy Dog is currently offering curbside pick-up as a takeout option in almost all of its restaurants. Save your pooch’s kibbles for a rainy day and order a balanced meal of brown rice and her choice of grilled chicken or hamburger patty for $4.95.

Sprinkles Pupcakes

At Sprinkles Cupcakes, you can pre-order for takeout online, via the app or by phone. While you’re deciding on your own cupcake flavors, put in a request for a Pupcake from the secret menu. The sugar-free baked treat is topped with yogurt frosting for healthy hounds. Pupcakes start at $2.50.

Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons is a popular Canadian donut chain, and one of its most beloved menu items is the Timbits: bite-sized balls of deep-fried deliciousness. Timbits for dogs come without the added sugar on top and are just 18 cents a pop.

Culver’s

Culver’s has been serving up ButterBurgers and fresh frozen custard since 1984. Canines who rock up at the window of select stores can bag themselves a pooch-sized-portion of the chain’s trademark fresh frozen custard topped with a Milk-Bone.
