4 p.m. Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel

Bring Fido to the Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel along the banks of the Willamette River where your pup will be greeted with a house-made dog treat at check-in. As a part of the dog-friendly Kimpton Hotels chain, the boutique hotel welcomes pets for no additional fee and has all the amenities needed to keep your pooch pampered, including loaner pet beds, food, mats, water bowls and waste bags. Loaner bikes, yoga mats in each guest room, and a fitness center promote a healthy stay.

At 5 p.m., make your way to the lobby with your dog for Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel’s nightly hosted wine hour where you’re encouraged to bring your party animal. Chat with other guests while sipping a complimentary beverage before heading out to explore P-Town.

6 p.m. Tom McCall Waterfront Park

Go to Tom McCall Waterfront Park, conveniently located in the hotel’s “backyard”, for a pre-dinner stroll with Fido along Portland’s pet-friendly pedestrian river walk. The park is really a sight to see in the late spring season when its 100 ornamental cherry trees are in bloom but is a “pupular” spot with leashed dogs and their owners year-round.

7:30 p.m. Victoria Bar

Have dinner at Victoria Bar, a vegan-friendly restaurant that has two covered outdoor patios where Fido is welcome to join you for a meal. Victoria Bar has an item just for dogs on its menu, the “Pupper Supper”, a yummy jasmine rice bowl topped with pumpkin and peanut butter that will leave your pooch begging for more. For humans, the food menu features small bites, salads and sandwiches alongside cocktails with names inspired by the movie, “The Princess Bride”. Try the vegan fried chicken sandwich or the Angus cheeseburger paired with Inigo Montoya.

9 p.m. Portland Ghosts

Let’s go on a ghost hunt! The Portland Ghosts tour will take you and your dog on an hour-long walk through the oldest sections of downtown Portland. You will visit many of the most haunted locations in the region and get historical insight into what life was like for some of the early visitors and residents of the area, and you’ll get a greater understanding of why Portland is listed as one of the most haunted cities in America. You’ll also learn about the practice of “Shanghaiing” and how it led to some of the hauntings downtown. Friendly, well-behaved dogs are welcome on the tour!

Use the Canine Entrance at White Owl Social Club to access the dog-friendly patio where you can calm your nerves after the ghost tour with a drink or two. The cocktail list is reasonably priced and features signature drinks like the Good Fortune, a delicious peach concoction. Wine and a rotating list of craft beers are available in addition to a seasonal alcoholic slushie. The bar features live entertainment most evenings and occasionally hosts a “Sit, Stay, Slay” drag night with dogs!

Head to Holman’s Bar & Grill, where breakfast is served all day on the dog-friendly, enclosed patio filled with plants and a fountain. Start off the morning with biscuits and sausage gravy, chicken fried steak and eggs, or the veggie scramble. Order a strong cup of coffee or, if you had one too many cocktails last night, opt for Holman’s weekend build-your-own bloody mary bar, where you can make your own “hair of the dog” concoction. Treat your pup to a side of bacon to go along with his bowl of water.

And, from August 31 until October 31, Bella Organic Farm boasts a popular Portland pumpkin patch, corn maze and fun hayrides. 12 p.m. Cartopia Food Truck Pod

Once you’ve worked up an appetite on the farm, head to Cartopia Food Truck Pod for lunch for you and your furry friend. With all of the different offerings from the eight tenants, the most difficult decision might be deciding what to order. Fido will appreciate visiting with all of the other pups and sipping from the provided water bowls.

For dinner, dig into a hand-tossed pizza on the covered, pet-friendly patio at Lucky Labrador Beer Hall. Try the spot’s most popular pie, The Mutt Pizza, topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, artichoke hearts, green peppers and mushrooms. Pair it with one of the brewpub’s beers like the Dog Day IPA and you’ll be all set. Your canine companion can drink from one of the pub’s water bowls while you chow down. Lucky Labrador also hosts the annual Dogtoberfest, a dog-washing fundraiser event with live music and beer that benefits the DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital.

8 p.m. Rogue Eastside Pub and Pilot Brewery

Head to Rogue Eastside Pub and Pilot Brewery's large patio with your pooch for dessert, a pint of beer, or to sample one of the distillery’s cocktails. This is one of the public houses for Rogue Ales and Spirits, an Oregon company that brews its own beer, distills its own spirits, and farms its own ingredients. For a unique dessert, try the Beer Float, a treat made from your choice of beer and ice cream. If you’d prefer to keep your sweets non-alcoholic, the Rogue Root Beer Float, made with housemade root beer and vanilla ice cream, is a great sweet to end your Saturday.

8 a.m. Voodoo Doughnut

Since its opening in 2013, Voodoo Doughnut has become a Portland staple known for tasty donuts with shameless names. Fido’s favorite will be the Bacon Maple Bar topped with two pieces of bacon. Choose from 60 varieties of donuts including the Voodoo Doll donut filled with raspberry jelly and pierced with a pretzel stake. There is a dog-friendly outdoor seating area where you can savor your selections. Before you go, be sure to get a picture of Fido in front of the Keep Portland Weird (the city’s unofficial slogan) mural across the street. Do it for the ’gram and hashtag #bringfido.

9 a.m. Sellwood Riverfront Park

Fido needs to get in some off-leash playtime before you leave Stumptown, so head to Sellwood Riverfront Park. The park features a 1.5-acre off-leash area that is a great place for dogs to run and swim. In addition to the dog area, Sellwood Riverfront Park has several miles of paved trails where you can hike with your leashed pup while enjoying scenic views of the Willamette River. Don’t forget to bring poop bags and water.

11 p.m. Tin Shed Garden Cafe

Tin Shed Garden Cafe loves dogs! So much so that your pooch has his own menu to enjoy on the dog-friendly patio of this restaurant in Portland’s Alberta neighborhood. To start, order Fido Food, chicken and sweet potatoes served in a dog bowl, followed by Doggie Dessert, a peanut butter ice cream sundae topped with yogurt and a dog biscuit for your good boy. For you, the human menu features fresh, organic meals that will leave you feeling healthy and satisfied. Before you leave, purchase your pup a bandana and the proceeds will be donated to a local pet charity. If you visit again and your dog is wearing the bandana, they’ll get half off their next doggie meal.

1 p.m. Cycle Dog Tavern and Dog Park

Before you leave PDX, let Fido try out some new toys while he plays at Cycle Dog Tavern and Dog Park with indoor and outdoor seating and play areas. It’s free for your pup to play on leash in the tavern area and it costs $8 for a one-time pass for the off-leash play areas. While you wear your pup out before you head home, enjoy a glass of wine, beer, or soda. As you sip on a beverage, take a moment to reflect back on your weekend in dog-friendly Portland exploring the city’s beautiful parks, gardens, farms, and thriving culinary scene with your pup. By the time you depart The City of Roses, you’ll be planning your return visit.
