The fees for traveling with your dog or cat in the airline cabin are ridiculously high. You pet carrier counts as a carry on and you must place it under the seat in front of you, so there is no reason to charge anything for that - maybe they should even give you a credit these days for freeing up overhead compartment space! It does take you a few extra minutes to check in and pay your fee at the airport, and therefore the time of a check in agent to get you checked in, and they make you call in to book your reservation so there is some time for the sales agent to take you credit card. But other than that, I see nothing that causes the airline to do anything different. A fee of $125 EACH WAY charged by the majors (Delta - United - American) is RIDICULOUS. Even the $95 each ay charged by some of discounters is not justified. $50 each way or per segment or $100 RT would be a lot easier to swallow and still give the airlines revenue for no incremental cost. Is there anything BRING FIDO or similar entities or per t owners could do to lower these fees if they banded together?
