Great one-night stay
Comfort Inn & Suites DaytonLovely, friendly desk clerk, easy check-in. She had taken care of special requests (room close to exit and no feather pillows). Nice, clean, spacious room. She also noted my Choice number. One of the best single night hotels of the trip. Would stay again.
What La Quinta used to be
La Quinta by Wyndham St. Louis WestportSpacious, comfortable room with a recliner! No pet fee (as all La Quintas used to be). Had to wait over an hour for a luggage cart, but the hotel was very busy. The people at the front desk were very helpful in locating a cart for us. Unfortunately, the next morning, the desk staff was totally useless and said we would have to go up and down the hallways to find a luggage cart. As my hubby is on crutches, it was simpler to make several trips to our vehicle with our luggage.
Best pet-friendly hotel ever!
Algonquin Resort St Andrews by-the-Sea Autograph CollectionReally beautiful hotel room with high ceilings, squeaky clean, lovely appointments, and a spectacular view from a giant window. All rooms dog friendly! Wow! Bathroom with a shower. We felt very pampered. Superb staff seemingly at every turn willing to lend a hand, and pleasantly comfortable around all the pets. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Only downside is the food service. Ordered room service the first night. Food was very good, although balancing plates on our laps was not ideal, and silverware/napkins would have been a nice addition (luckily we had some utensils with us). Surprisingly, only dry wines on the menu and, in a French speaking country, the wine was from California! LOL
When we checked in, we were told pets were welcome everywhere except the main dining room. However, when we went to the bar, we were told no pets there either. This, after no elevator down to the bar (my husband is an amputee and stairs are difficult). The bar menu had also been severely pared down which was disappointing. The food we did have was delicious.
On a scale of 1-10: hotel-10++, staff-10++, dining-7.
Okay for a night
Super 8 by Wyndham AlbanyAsked for non-feather pillows. Had to call manager (answer no). Attendant not the most informed (or helpful). Accommodations quite worn, but the room was nice sized and clean. Room had a very comfortable chair (unusual, but welcomed).
Not a great stay
Best Western Plus Executive Court Inn & Conference CenterWoman at desk very argumentative at check in. Would not take my BW number because I booked through a 3rd party (a common occurrence). Said I already had a reduced rate, so there would be no points (the rate on the BW site was actually $3 less). Nice room; had to figure out the heater ourselves. TV didn't work. Called the front desk and was told she, by choice, hadn't had television for 30 years (as if I care), and didn't know anything about them. Hubby went to the desk and asked for two new batteries for the remote which solved the problem. Such a hassle when all we wanted was a quiet evening.
Okay stay
Moose Brook MotelFresh smelling. Dated, no air conditioning. Reasonable rates and dog fees. Nice staff.
Would stay here again
Howard Johnson by Wyndham BangorClean, updated, and comfortable. Close to a so-so dog park.
Would stay here again
Comfort Inn BarrieOkay room. Fresh smell, clean. Small room, but sliding glass doors made loading/unloading dog stuff/crates/luggage much easier. Staff was very polite, friendly, and helpful. Pet fee seemed a bit steep.
Would stay here again
Super 8 by Wyndham Sault Ste MarieHotel staff was super nice. Hotel was clean, smelled fresh, and somewhat updated. Room was really small (had trouble finding room for 2 medium dog crates). Pet fee ($20/2 dogs)was more than reasonable.
Smelled like a kennel
Quality Inn HudsonvilleThe staff was very nice, and mostly helpful. The hotel was shabby and smelly. Paid $60 for two small dogs for two nights. Don't know what they use the pet fees for, but it isn't cleaning.
Smelled like a kennel
Motel 6 Hannibal MONot a clean smell, tiny, shabby room. A pet fee is just to get more $$, not because they make any extra effort to clean.
Squeaky Clean and Neat
SureStay Plus Hotel by Best Western Niagara Falls EastNice room. Small but really clean and fresh smelling. Really nice, helpful staff. Great non-feather pillows. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.
