Pretty trails, Western Town is gone

This was a beautiful place to spend an afternoon on a warm February afternoon. It is reasonably close to the 101 so was a convenient place to stop while traveling.
Most of the building facades were lost during a wildfire but there are a few things left including a pretty little fake church set in a field. The trails were nice and not too crowded on a Friday afternoon.

Clean and Cheap

I didn’t feel that the location was very convenient from I-40, but don’t know the area well so maybe it was. Our room was very clean and they accommodated our first floor room request which was great. There was plenty of room around the property for the dogs to do their business and breakfast was pretty good. I felt it was a good value even with the dog fees that matched the price of the room.

Good for the price

This was a good cheap option for a short overnight stay. The room was fine not dance and not sparkling clean. The parking lot had a lot of goat head stickers, so be careful. It was convenient to the highway and there were gas a food options very close. Great value if you just need a place to sleep while passing through.

Acceptable

The room was clean and we had no issues. The parking lot had grass and room for the dogs to do their business. It was fine but nothing spectacular. It was a little loud and maybe not the safest locations, but was fine for a night while passing through.

Very Nice

This is a great place for a nice long walk with an added bonus of learning about the Mission’s history. There are a lot of trails but you do need to be mindful of poison oak and rattlesnakes like with any hiking in the area. The trails are sandy and can be muddy where the springs run. There is also a wide trail that runs around the area that makes it easier to avoid poison oak. We have been a couple of times and always enjoy our visits.

Nice

This hotel was nice and clean. It's in a good location near shops and restaurants. This was one of few hotels that promised treats at check-in and delivered! They provided a nice little bag with poop bags and treats. We will definitely stay here again.

Great Location

We had a really nice stay here. It is conveniently located near walking paths and right across from the lake. We upgraded to a lake view room and they thoughtfully put us on the first floor which was great for the dogs. The room was a suite which I didn’t expect and was quite large. There were ample grass areas for the dogs to relieve themselves which was also nice. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely

We did the Spooner Lake Loop trail which was about 2 miles and very easy. It was a beautiful walk around the lake and through some aspen stands. When we were here (Oct 2022) the bathrooms were all locked and the day use fee was $10 for NV cars and $15 for everyone else. Dogs were welcome in leash and all of the dogs we encountered were leashed which was nice. There are information plaques around the trail and plenty of benches where you can stop and enjoy the spectacular views.

Ok

This trail is actually a loop through an oak forest. It is a pretty little walk and one of few Paso has to offer for dogs. It can be narrow and rough in areas depending on which route you take. Unfortunately there is a LOT of dog feces especially in the upper areas. We have also frequently encountered off leash dogs despite this being an area that requires leashes. For those reasons, we only head here when desperate. But it COULD be a very nice trail.

Not that pet friendly

Hotel is across a busy street from the ocean. There is a short path where dogs are allowed across the street and a longer boardwalk where dogs are allowed further down the road. Dogs are not allowed on the beach that connects the two walking paths leaving your only legal option to walk on a narrow bridge with two lanes of traffic. They have redone an old kitschy hotel, given it new paint and a new name. There are much better options in the area. It is well worth it to stay at the Cavalier in San Simeon which is situated in a more dog friendly area, had ocean views, access to a nice and (leashed) dog-friendly beach, no pet fee, and no discriminatory policies.

Great location

This was a perfectly nice, reasonably priced hotel in a wonderful location. As many have mentioned, it is only a short walk to a dog-friendly beach. Dogs must remain on leash at the beach. There is also a nice boardwalk through the dunes for leashes dogs to enjoy.

Fun and easy

This is a nice walk mostly through a wash before it climbs up to the hoodoos. It’s very pretty, but I imagine it’s gets very hot (we went early morning in the fall) and it was fine. It’s about a mile and a half round trip and flat until you climb a bit to get to the hoodoos.

Wire Pass Trail was Great

The last review somehow accidentally submitted.
We took the Wire Pass trail during the early part of the day in late October. It would be seriously hot with very little shade during warmer months or in the afternoon. The trail follows a wide wash to a beautiful slot canyon. There is a significant drop (8-10’) in the middle of the canyon which I was not going to attempt with a 60lb dog, so we went halfway through and then came out. There is a path that goes over the slot canyon, but it is steep and slippery so may not be a good idea for some dogs. We climbed to the top to enjoy the views and then headed back to the trail head.
The trail head is at a parking lot 8 miles down a very rough road that is impassible during wet weather, so be aware of that as well.

Wonderful location, disappointing ambiance

This hotel is in a beautiful spot and there is a beautiful trail that runs along the sand spit from the resort up into a neighborhood. We came in the off-season and dining choices were limited. Food at the hotel is limited and expensive for the quality. The real negative were the people. Most people kept their dogs leashed in accordance with the many signs posted around. However, quite a few allowed their dogs off-leash and those dogs were not under control and I observed quite a few instances where those dogs caused trouble with leashed dogs. We had to check to make sure the coast was clear before leaving our room. If it was one group, fine, but there were multiple groups doing this. We had a bay view room on the first floor and there were lots of loud people outside until late at night. I even had a man wearing nothing but a bathrobe open the door and when I said “excuse me!” he said “what?” I replied “This isn’t your room.” He said “oh, ok” and his little unleashed dog ran into my room. He then proceeded into my room to chase the dog who growled and snapped at him while he tried to keep his private parts covered while shooing the dog outside.

The walls and ceiling are not well insulated so our quiet evening by the seaside tonight has been punctuated by kids running races and jumping off the beds upstairs. Dogs can be left unattended in your room, which, based on the howling and whining erupting down the hall each night, it seems people take advantage of. My room’s door is covered in scratch marks on the inside from previous “well behaved” dogs, I presume. We came a long way to be here and 3 days here was supposed to be the pinnacle of our road trip. It is incredibly gorgeous and we loved being able to take long walks without having to drive anywhere, but we encountered way too many rude people and, quite frankly, terrible dog owners to want to come back. This place seemed to have more of a summer camp vibe than that of an upscale resort. Side note- the views are beautiful from the bay view rooms, but the less expensive courtyard view rooms have grass and little porches and that side of the hotel is much quieter, so it is probably not worth the extra money for the bay view rooms.

Beautiful Property

This property is beautiful and we loved spending an afternoon in Depoe Bay. The description on BringFido included a balcony which the room did not have. That was disappointing. They provided my dog with a bag upon check in with some cookies and a toy (it was a wool dryer ball which I decided not to give her, but I’ll use it for laundry). There was no Yappy Hour due to covid, but there were lots of interesting places to eat in the neighboring towns. They do have a trail on the property which was kind of hard to find. It is all the way past the last building of rooms and then across the fairway. The trail to the lake was not well maintained, but the trail to the beach was maintained. There are covered walkways all over the property which was really nice. I would definitely stay here again.

Good hotel for the dogs

The room was large and they nicely accommodated my request for a ground floor room (my dog is scared of elevators and picking up a 58 lb dog to carry her on elevators gets old after a while). The room and hotel felt really clean and they had breakfast set up to take to go if you wanted which is always nice with dogs. If you hop through bushes at the back of the property, it connects to a nice wide walking trail. Of course, being the desert, you’ve got to hit it early to avoid the heat. There were oddly party type situations happening in the parking lot most nights, but no noticeable noise in the room from it. I stayed 3 nights with 2 dogs, so it made the flat $100 dog fee reasonable, though I might hesitate for a shorter stay. The front desk clerk was very sweet to my dogs and gave us bags of cookies at check in (which I find is often promised and rarely received at hotels). Will definitely stay here again.

Best Sandwiches in Town

The Cafe on Bridge Street is hands down the best lunch place in Cambria. I grew up here and still visit frequently, so have a pretty thorough knowledge of the restaurants. The sandwiches are huge and delicious and filled with fresh ingredients. My sister loves the French dip and I most often pick the club, but they have a good variety of offerings and I’ve yet to see anyone disappointed in their order and we bring friends here regularly. The garden is a nice spot to enjoy your food or you can grab it to go and have a picnic at any of the parks in town. The portions are definitely large enough to share with your 4- legged companions too.

It’s ok

The grounds are beautiful and the main advantage is that you can easily walk off grounds and follow a sidewalk for miles if your pup need a longer walk. The room had mold on the shower tile, a half empty bottle of water in the fridge, and a quarter in the ground. Not exactly what you want to see in a place that has supposedly upped their cleaning game due to the pandemic. The pillows smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. My dog was tolerated, not welcomed and there was no offer of treats, a bed, or a bowl.
Parking is not covered, so you are required to cross an expanse of very hot pavement in the Vegas heat to enter and exit the hotel, this we only came and went very early or very late. I think we will go back to the Cosmo or try something else se when we return to the Vegas area.

Loved it!

We loved our stay at the Cosmopolitan. The dogs had a fantastic time sitting on the terrace watching the Belagio fountain and all of the people and cars far below. The rooms were much nicer than expected for a casino hotel. The dog boxes were fun (but we had to ask a couple of times for them). I was glad that we spent the extra money for a terrace fountain view. The dog relief areas left something to be desired, but were adequate for our short stay. Everyone was very happy to see our dogs and were super nice. I will definitely stay here again if I have to go to Vegas.

Beautiful View

We had a beautiful view (which cost extra, of course). There were quite a few dogs enjoying the property. It is near a park and situated near shopping and dining. However, be aware that it is also near a public boat launch, so lots of early morning traffic noise. Perhaps not the quiet and serene environment some might be hoping for. We didn’t mind the noise and really enjoyed our stay.

Fun For The Whole Family

We were looking for a fun dog friendly activity in the area while we were babysitting my nephews for the day. We all had a lot of fun doing the corn maze and picking out pumpkins. They had a wide
variety of pumpkins and gourds
to choose from. We went on October 30th, so the corn maze showed signs of the season’s wear- lots of places where people cut shortcuts and had kind of trashed it. But it wasn’t impossibly hard for the 10 year old to navigate through to the exit with a little help. We would definitely do this again.

The hotel seemed clean. There was a review on Trip Advisor mentioning bed bugs, so I did a thorough check first and saw no evidence of bed bugs. It isn’t fancy, but it is fine if you have to go to Turlock.

Fun Family Activity

This tour was a very pretty and interesting way to learn about the history of logging in the area. everyone was very friendly toward our dogs and they enjoyed it immensely. The scenery is gorgeous and about halfway through, you get an opportunity to get off the train and take a little walk in the woods. we will definitely do this again when we are in the area.

Wonderful Getaway

We have been to Tenaya Lodge many times with our dogs. It is a lovely and large property which allows for nice walks without ever leaving the property. There is also a nice trail- the Tenaya Lodge Loop Trail which extends where you can walk and gets the dogs into the woods for a little jaunt.
We stayed in one of the cabin rooms and I would not recommend paying the extra money for these rooms, I don’t feel like the room added anything to our stay. I highly recommend the Tenaya Lodge for a nice relaxing trip during any season, though.

Amazing!

We visited on a weekend in February and the whole town was packed! Prepare for that!! The restaurant was super busy, but they texted when a dog friendly table was ready. The food the delicious a land everyone was so nice to our dogs. We had three big dogs with us, which can be a nightmare in a crowded restaurant, so I was a little worried. But the staff was so nice and the dogs had plenty of room. They brought water for the dogs right away, and then brought a 2nd bowl so everyone could drink at the same time and they brought refills whenever the water ran low (even though I had a bottle of water for them).
This place is worth the wait. I was very impressed with both the service and the food.

Fantastic Spot!

This hotel is between .5 and .75 miles from the visitor’s center and South Rim trail and there is a path across the street making it easy to walk there. The hotel itself was nice and clean (much nicer than expected from Yelp reviews). We had a really nice stay and it exceeded our expectations. The staff were all very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would definitely stay here again with or without my dogs.

Good stop over

The rooms were clean, the breakfast was great and offered egg white frittata along with the usual breakfast fare. There was a large vacant lot across the street, must my girls were fine using the gravel landscaping areas to do their business. It was great that there was no pet fee and everyone was very nice about two big dogs showing up to stay. The area was right next to the outlets and felt safe and secure. Would definitely stay here again to break up the long drive to Las Vegas.

Perfect Vacation!

I’ve travelled many places with my dogs, and the cavalier was one of our absolute favorites. The rooms were nice, the grounds had plenty of room for nice walks, perfectly placed benches for walks, and easy access to the beach. There was no feeling of being second class because of the dogs, and trash cans were everywhere for easy poop pick-up. I was blown away and my dogs had a blast. Will definitely make this our go-to spot from now on.
