THE BEST

Petopia

My dogs love it here, and I can tell the team really loves dogs! They're continually adding new options for the boarding dogs (treats, stories, walks, etc) and they're also kind and patient with people. I love that I can drop the dogs off for the day while they play, get loved on, fed their lunch , and even given a nail trim as long as I remember to request the add-on when I check them in. We've not tried their pick-up/drop-off dog shuttle service, but it is awesome to know we could if we needed to!

Pretty Good!

PetSmart

Nice and spacious store, good selection of items and very friendly and pleasant staff. There is a training space, but it is up front which just adds a learning curve from distractions. I don't think they have a trainer on the team right now, the last trainer was so sweet, but she left and they didn't replace her before the pandemic.

Good Choice

Tractor Supply Co.

Excellent place to stretch your legs with your dogs and pick up both dog necessities and the occasional something fun. Staff is always super nice, with a special bucket of treats and some behind-the-ear-scritches (for the canines) at checkout. If you go during baby chick season, your city (fur)kids will get extra interesting things to smell (please be respectful though)

Meh

PETCO Grand Forks

It's fine. Grooming is ok. Sometimes they have something the other places in town don't. Sometimes the dogs and I need a change of scenery. It is a bit cramped, but it will do. Dogs are allowed to join you to shop.

Nice

Treat Play Love

Boutique type store. Feels small, but full of neat things. Has a self-service dog wash. More than once I've not been able to find what we need, though I can always find something we want. Dogs are allowed, sometimes they get treats. Staff feels kind of moody, sometimes they're super nice, sometimes they barely talk to you. I do know they do a ton of good things for the community, so I'm happy to support the store when I can.

Fine

La Quinta by Wyndham Sioux Falls

No problem that our dogs were with, smooth going on them joining us. Polite staff, not an especially warm welcome, which some might appreciate if your dogs actually feel more comfortable without attention from strangers. 2 elevators and comfortable carpeted (not-scary) stairwells for getting around. While waste bags and disposal bins were available, there was still lots of dog poo outdoors. Plenty of space to potty, but the neighborhood didn't appear particularly walkable.

not dog friendly

Noodles & Company

called to confirm and they said no dogs on patio. maybe you'd have better luck, but don't count on it

decent

Dairy Queen

best DQ in grand forks. better suited to multi-human trips so one can go inside to order and one can wait outside with dogs, though curbside ordering on the dq app might be a modern work-around. minimal seating gets scooped up fast on warm summer nights, no indoor seating for anyone for any time of year.

not dog friendly

Dairy Queen

they don't do pup cups, and are rude if you ask. outdoor seating is more of a technicality rather than pleasant. better off ordering drive-thru and driving to a park to sit in the car

Our New Favorite Place

Monks House of Ale Repute

This place is #1 for favorite places we've ever brought our (fur) babies, and why we're already dreaming of a return to Sioux Falls. We visited first thing on a Friday afternoon for lunch and brews. We confirmed prior to bringing them in that they were welcome, and they responded that they actually love it when dogs come in! Our dogs were welcome to join us indoors or out. Since it was still cool outside, we chose a booth indoors and they were totally fine with the dogs sitting on the seat next to us. They were offered a fresh dish of water, and our waitress was very observant and respectful enough to sense that our dogs preferred to just chill rather than receive tons of extra attention. Beer selection was great, pizza was good too, and there's nothing better than being able to truly relax while traveling with the dogs.
