Good house specialties and a dog-friendly porch
TABLE on 6thTable on 6th had a wide variety of unpretentious house specialties and a staff that was happy to see our dog.
Quirky tacos
Redheaded StrangerAn affordable and unique taco shop favoring unusual ingredients like tater tots. The large, covered patio has water bowls and is popular on nice days.
Fresh, unique dishes
The TreehouseThe Treehouse menu is packed with unique dishes based on available fresh ingredients. We especially enjoyed the burrata and arancini. Our dog was welcomed on the deck with a bowl of water. The deck bar is popular with locals and their dogs for happy hour.
Varied menu, roadside seating
Hawkers Asian Street FoodHawkers has a large, varied menu of Asian dishes. Vegetarian options are mostly appetizers. Our green beans, papaya salad, and bao were well made and pretty spicy. Dogs get to sit on the turf below the sidewalk tables, and water was provided for our dog. Both the music and road noise were loud.
Upscale, varied meals
AVOAVO offers a large menu of fresh, interesting dishes. We enjoyed their unique lasagna and pot pie. Plenty of sheltered sidewalk tables are available outside the restaurant. The staff brought water for our dog.
Gumbo, beignets and coffee until midnight.
Morning Call Coffee StandThis cash-only restaurant is a cemetery district late-night haunt for New Orleans dishes and fresh beignets. There is plenty of dog-friendly front porch seating overlooking the end of the streetcar line.
Fresh, original takes on Louisiana fare
RosedaleWe enjoyed the attentive service, excellent food, and dog-friendly service on a large patio. Don't miss the mushroom & butternut salad.
Many unique dishes
Cafe CuscoCafe Cusco offers a large patio and many unique and adventurous Peruvian-inspired dishes. The menu offers a variety of meatless options as well. Expect some heat on the dishes described as spicy.
A cafe unique for a love of books and dogs
Protagonist CafeA comfortable place to enjoy a coffee, a book, and a dog, inside or outside.
Spacious patio and excellent service
Más Tequila CantinaWe received friendly, attentive service and a fresh bowl of water for our dog. Fajitas were excellent and big enough to share.
Grill with a nice view
Moonraker Restaurant & LoungeMoonraker has a varied grill menu with dog friendly service on the back porch and a great creekside view
Varied menus for humans and dogs
Griffin Grill & PubA big menu, a dog-friendly patio and a selection of dog treats from the pup menu make this a great stop.
Convenient for dogs
La Roma MotelThe La Roma has a friendly, dog-loving new owner who is making essential repairs to the old facilities. It is clean and conveniently arranged for dog travelers, with ample green space and parking just outside the single floor of rooms. The owner plans substantial building improvements for 2024, which are needed to feel competitive with modern motel rooms.
Clean, comfortable, convenient
Rodd Moncton HotelRooms are clean and comfortable. The staff all seemed happy to meet our dog. Dog rooms are on the main floor for convenience. The TV has archaic cable and was useless for streaming. Downtown restaurants and the river trail are all close by, as are green spaces.
Spacious beer garden for pizza
The Rustic CrustRustic Crust serves a soft, thin-crust style pizza with a wide variety of notably fresh toppings. Plenty of outdoor tables are available, and our dog was presented with a bowl of water and greetings from the staff.
Fresh food, dog-friendly porch
Rebecca's RestaurantRebecca's has a nice view of Mahone Bay, and serves unique dishes with fresh ingredients. We had a great spinach salad and smoked salmon sandwich. Our dog was greeted with a bowl of water.
Unique throwback hotel
Marshlands InnThe rooms are packed with unique, throwback-style decorations. Ours had a big stuffed dog as well. Some deferred maintenance is apparent; the hotel is both elaborate and rather threadbare. But rooms are clean and comfortable, and the hotel is fun and unique. The location is close to shops and restaurants, as well as to the Sackville Waterfowl Park, a great place for on-leash walks (though expect mosquitoes). We were served an excellent seafood meal in the restaurant; it is sparsely attended, so they appreciate meal reservations ahead of time.
Excellent breakfasts
Tatte Bakery & CafeShakshuka is too rare in the U.S., and Tatte's version with corn and spinach is excellent. The outdoor tables are simple and uncovered, so just suitable for dry weather.
Fresh ingredients, careful preparation
Bostonia Public HouseThis upscale pub has fresh ingredients, good portions, and plenty of sidewalk tables. Our fish and pasta dishes were excellent, and service was attentive.
Fresh casual meal
Niku RamenThe ramen and rice bowls here are great casual meals. We had to go to the adjacent restaurant Tiki Rock to ask for the chef to come over to Niku, but he soon was making our bowls with fresh ingredients. There are several picnic and other tables along the street with plenty of space for dogs.
Clean and dog friendly
Club Quarters Hotel Faneuil Hall BostonWhile basic, and pricey as typical for the area, the CQ is clean and comfortable, and welcomes all sizes of dogs. Staff is friendly and helpful. Grassy areas are a block away, and parking is off site two blocks away in an unrelated garage.
Good pizza stop with a view
Burano's Wood-Fired PizzeriaBurano's had good wood-fired pizza, a nice view of the river, and a staff that loved meeting our dog.
Popular pub for locals and their dogs
The Quarry Tap RoomThis pub with an ambitious menu is often packed with locals in the evening. Our dog was welcomed with us on the patio.
Helpful staff, pet friendly
Acadia Sunrise MotelThe room was clean, staff was friendly and helpful, and the property had plenty of outside space for walking dogs. The single queen room is very compact. The general condition and maintenance of the room and bathroom were just adequate. While the room is inexpensive compared to many other accommodations in the area, it was still expensive for what feels like a very low-end motel. A restaurant and market are within walking distance. Bar Harbor and Acadia are about 20 minutes away by car, varying with traffic.
Dog-friendly patio and service
The Blind Pig TavernA spacious, dog-friendly patio and staff make this a nice place to rest for a meal. There were no serious vegetarian meal options on the menu. The bbq chicken sandwich was good; the reuben was greasy. A request for coleslaw instead of fries yielded a plate with a huge portion of fries, which my dog enjoyed, along with a tiny cup of truly awful coleslaw.
A great breakfast
Iron Gate CaféExcellent breakfast on a dog-friendly patio, with a variety of unique and great breakfast and lunch items. The front and rear patios have many tables but tables are close enough together that dogs should be calm. Our service was quick and friendly, including a big bowl of water for our dog. Reserving a table ahead is recommended for busy weekend mornings.
Fine food, casual vibe
Once Upon a TableOnce Upon a Table is an upscale and fresh but unpretentious restaurant, with a small but varied menu. The front patio is pleasant for a relaxed meal and has space for dogs. We found the chef's skill shows through in unexpectedly delightful dishes, like a wonderful borscht and a fantastic baked haddock.
Good Thai standards
Vong's Thai CuisineThough limited to take-out at the tables on the front patio, Vong's is a good place to stop for typical Thai dishes. The choo chee curry is a treat.
Traditional and fresh Mexican, not fast food
Avocado Cafe LeeWe were impressed by the nopal salad and signature margarita. A few outside tables welcome dogs.
Good beer, pleasant patio
Dogfish Head Brewings & EatsThis location has great beer choices, a good variety of pizza and sandwiches, and a covered patio that is nicely sheltered on a cool, windy evening.
A fun introduction to downtown Asheville
Asheville Urban TrailThe interactive map for the Asheville Urban Trail offers just enough guidance to make the full circuit for an enjoyable few hours introduction to downtown. Expect a bit of urban grittiness, and a wide variety of cool and unique shops and restaurants. Many of the malls and stores are dog-friendly. On sunny days, look for shady areas to listen to the audio tour clips. Bring an extra battery if your phone struggles to get through a day.
Great fish, great view
Islamorada Fish CompanyA huge piece of the daily catch swordfish made for an excellent sandwich. The view over the water is beautiful. Our dog was treated to a bowl of water and shade on a hot day. The adjacent and dog-friendly World Wide Sportsman Bass Pro Shop is full of interesting historical items, including the restored sister ship to Ernest Hemingway’s "Pilar".
Top-notch Cuban cuisine
Doce ProvisionsWe had the excellent lechon asado buns and the ropa vieja. Reservations are a good idea for mealtimes. The large back patio is accessed from an alley around the corner from the restaurant.
Dog-friendly terrace
Old's Havana Cuban Bar & CocinaThe large rear patio is dog-friendly and quieter than the restaurant interior. They seated us off to a side of the terrace to avoid other customers who might be nervous about a big dog. Service and food were good; the Vitrola appetizer platter makes a fine introduction to the house specialties, and is big enough for two people to share.
Great tapas
España Restaurant & TapasWe had fine tapas choices, served by a busy staff that still welcomed our dog on the patio.
Favorite restaurant for locals
Horse & Hounds RestaurantWednesday night had a line waiting for tables, marking this restaurant as a clear favorite for locals. The menu is varied, food is good, and prices are reasonable for the area, though the staff struggled to keep up with the crowd. Karaoke night on the covered outside porch was loud. Don't miss the Juniper General Store, an eclectic combination of shop, coffeehouse, and pub, a few doors down.
Unique breakfast & lunch choices
First WatchA big covered dog-friendly patio (unfortunately on a busy road) and unique, healthy breakfasts make this a great place for an early meal.
Closed
Harvest Market DeliWebsite no longer is valid and the business is marked permanently closed in Google Maps
Unique Tex-Mex
Lola's Burrito JointThe menu includes some fresh and unique options, including interesting vegetarian choices rare for tex-mex. The staff was happy to seat us on the street-side patio with our dog.
Chef's pride
Roux OrganicsThe chef was proud of his fresh quiche, and rightfully so. It was amazing.
Dog-friendly historical island
Fort George Island Cultural State ParkDogs are welcome in the Ribault Club, which is mostly interesting for history exhibits, and on the grounds of the Kingsley Plantation. The 18th century plantation is the highlight, as it provides a good idea of the scale and layout of a classic slaveholding. If hiking on the island, watch for ticks.
A beach park where dogs are not allowed on the beach
Little Talbot Island State ParkThe primary attraction of Little Talbot Island State Park is access to the beach where dogs are not permitted. There is a 4-mile hiking trail loop, but there are plenty of places nearby to hike with a dog that do not have an entrance fee. The nearby Fort George Island Cultural State park is much more welcoming to dogs.
Unique sandwiches and drinks
Backdoor Bistro & Coffee ShopAn impressive variety of drinks and sandwiches plus shaded patio seating make this a great small town stop.
Farm to table fresh, upscale
Ice PlantThe upstairs, shaded patio has counter height seating, which was helpful since several dogs were enjoying the patio off leash. Food is excellent, fresh and flavourful, though pricy. The staff was friendly and welcoming.
Big food menu
One Twenty Three Burger HouseMany food options and a covered dog-friendly front patio make this an easy meal stop. Check the local coupon books for discounts.
Great pizza place for dogs
Satchel's PizzaA unique menu for a pizza joint, good value, and plenty of fun, covered dog-friendly tables outside.
Elegant old building
Coombs Inn & SuitesCoombs Inn offers large and elegant rooms, comfortably appointed and clean, in a convenient location. Expect to climb stairs to enter, especially for the upper floor rooms. Dogs are welcome though not specifically catered to, and the per-night pet fee is substantial. Beds are too high for most dogs to easily jump on or off.
Great fort to explore
Fort Morgan State Historic SiteFort Morgan was larger and more interesting than other old forts that we've visited. It's also rare in being so welcoming to dogs throughout the site.
South American-flavored cafe
Cafe con LecheIn addition to typical coffee shop fare and baked goods, Cafe con Leche's tasty, fresh arepas make a great meal. The shaded front patio seating allows dogs.
Broad menu of quality options
Jaco's PerdidoJaco's Perdido offers a variety of dishes beyond the standard southern fare. A large patio has plenty of space for dogs, and the staff was happy to meet ours. Of many dishes that we liked, the portabella stack with its unique sauce was our favorite.
Favorite local seafood joint
Fishermans CornerLocals in Perdido Key spontaneously suggest Fisherman's Corner for the best seafood. The atmosphere is casual, but the food is fresh and carefully prepared. Our servers were friendly and happy to have our dog beside us on the enclosed porch. The blackened fish was excellent, and the shrimp and grits were unique, spicy and satisfying.
Most of the park remains closed
Big Lagoon State ParkMost of the park remains closed and its features inaccessible as of February 2023. There is one long open sandy loop walking trail that skirts the big lagoon. The full day use fee still applies, making visits a poor value except for state park pass holders.
Great patio, filling breakfasts
Ruby Slipper Orange BeachThe breakfasts are more satisfying and tasty than healthy, the huge front patio is great for dogs, and the staff clearly appreciates canine visitors.
Nice dog patio
The Blind Mule Restaurant & BarThe staff is friendly and loves dogs, and the back patio is spacious. Parking is easy. Our food was unimpressive, including a fresh but forgettable lasagna, and a bland, dry boudin wrap.
Surprising quality New Orleans dishes
Nonno’s Cajun Cuisine and PastriesThe sweet, filling French toast served all day is the house speciality, but Nonno's brings a quality touch to other dishes as well. The shrimp po'boy tastes like fine tempura on a roll, and the seafood eggrolls are impossible to resist. Plenty of sidewalk seating is available for dining beside dogs.
Indian-Cajun fusion with dog-friendly seatling
Silk RoadSilk Road creates tasty, unique dishes with Indian spices and New Orleans ingredients. Servers welcomed our dog with a bowl of water at the sidewalk tables.
Great, unique breakfast creations
TartineUnique, fresh breakfasts served with a dog-friendly patio in front.
A worthy destination for fresh baked treats
La BaguetteLocals know that La Baguette is the place to sit outside with your dog and enjoy an amazing fresh fruit turnover.
Extraordinary sandwiches, unique baked goods & a vast selection of soda
Pop a DogsPop-A-Dogs serves sausages and hot dogs that more comparable to gourmet grilled sandwiches than to simple hot dogs. They are proud of their unique fresh baked items, and an unbelievable variety of soft drinks.
Picnic tables, big menu, and shareable servings
Elwood's ShackNumerous picnic tables, some covered, are welcoming for dogs, though the Lowe's parking lot ambience is not romantic. The diverse meat-heavy menu of well-made options is served up in portions large enough to share with a giant breed.
Excellent European menu & service
The PantryThe Pantry offers excellent food from a broad German-Czech influenced menu and attentive, dog-friendly service on the sheltered front porch. They even provide a rare & varied vegetarian menu for German cuisine.
Good Mediterranean menu
Vasken's DeliGood sandwiches and wraps, fast service, and small outside tables
Clean rooms, convenient location
Red Roof Inn BransonThe rooms are compact and slightly shabby but are clean and comfortable, with hard floors that keep clean-up easy. The staff is friendly and professional. The location is excellent, walking distance to many fun and interesting attractions and restaurants.
Flavors worth seeking out
Ras Rody's Jamaican VeganThis family-run food truck, tucked away on a lot a few miles from Santa Fe Plaza, is worth the drive for its daily special plate offering a combination of wonderful flavors.
Great variety
Crepes PauletteCrepes Paulette has a wide variety of meal and dessert crepes. Ingredients are fresh and satisfying. Numerous vegan and vegetarian options and one crepe for dogs are on the menu. A patio offers shade under big umbrellas. Three staff members individually came outside to greet my dog.
Covered patio, attentive staff
Louie's Grill & BarLouie's has a typical American-Mexican menu, with a spacious fully shaded, dog-friendly patio, and attentive service.
Spacious patio, varied menu
InterurbanA nice patio with just a little highway noise, friendly service, and a varied menu make this a good stop with a dog. Entrees are large enough to share. Few vegetarian options, unfortunately.
Good for dogs, poorly maintained
Red Roof Inn Amarillo WestThe staff is dog friendly, and the property is well laid out for walking dogs. The room had clean sheets and bathroom, but leaking faucets, and an exceptionally dirty and frayed carpet. Parking is easy and plentiful. The provided breakfast was minimal, standard motel style.
Nice patio, flat beer, disappointing food
Six Car Pub & BreweryThe spacious patio is great for dogs, and the attentive staff quickly brought out a bowl of water. A fresh hefeweizen was so flat that we sent it back. The staff said it was how they intend to serve it, but they comped us and replaced it with a slightly less flat but still mediocre IPA. A kolsch was pleasant but also mostly flat. A thin impossible burger was served on a bun with a little cheese and fries, and nothing else at all, not even the ordered added mushrooms (servers provided veggies and condiments when asked, but had not mentioned when ordering that the standard burger was served dry and plain.) The grilled fried chicken sandwich was spicy and tasty, but very large and overwhelmingly greasy.
A destination for chocolate fans
Kakawa Chocolate HouseA short walk from the New Mexico State Capitol, Kakawa offers a great chance to sample a flight of unique chocolate drinks, with spacious outdoor seating.
Fresh, local fare
Santa Fe Bar & GrillDaily fresh specials offer good versions of local standard dishes. Service is friendly. The patio is a popular spot to bring dogs for a quiet meal.
Fresh food, friendly patio
The Pantry RioAttentive dog-friendly service on their patio, and fresh takes on Mexican food standards.
Tasty, surprising food
Annapurna’s World Vegetarian CaféAnnapurna's is far from Santa Fe's plaza, occupying a slot in a somewhat downtrodden strip mall. Its dog-friendly patio appears similarly neglected, with some weathered old metal tables and chairs.
But the food choices, a fascinating hybrid of Indian and American dishes, come through with fine flavors and impressive variety. The fast-casual style service with table delivery is surprisingly attentive as well.
Pricey and worth it
Ginger and BakerGinger and Baker's cafe has a great covered patio, dog-caring staff, and pricey but excellent fresh meals, including treats made for dogs.
Unique sandwiches
The Middle ForkThe Middle Fork offers unique sandwiches, salads, and breakfast choices, a shaded creekside patio, and very dog-friendly staff.
Good pizza and beer
Coal Creek TAPCoal Creek Trap offers good beer selections, a lackluster menu though with exceptionally good pizza, and a small but comfortable street side area friendly for dogs.
Dog-friendly patios, good food
The Green Pig PubWith multiple dog-friendly patios including a covered roof patio, staff that all seem positive about having dogs around, and great food including both meat and vegan dishes, The Green Pig Pub is a good stop for a meal or drinks. Expect a somewhat noisy atmosphere.
Fresh, veggie-forward, and a dog-friendly patio
Zest Kitchen & BarZest creates unique meals inspired by traditional foods, like pizza and stew, but using fresh vegetables, grains, and spices. The results are not imitations of meat dishes but rather have their own satisfying tastes. Dogs are welcome at the tables on the front patio, and the staff was happy to bring water and greet our dog.
Clean rooms, dated decor
Ruby InnThis motel is very clean and nicely appointed. The interior feels like stepping back to the 1960s, down to the shag carpet which would not be good for muddy dog paws. There is a large dog play and relief area on a side of the motel. The tv is big but not usable for modern streaming. Wifi is slow but steady. Religious signs, including a biblical verse reference as wifi password, make it feel like their hospitality is intended primarily for people who share their beliefs.
Thoroughly dog and human friendly
Prospector Hotel and CasinoProspector Hotel is wonderfully welcoming. Room amenities for dogs and people are well above typical for an affordable hotel, and the staff treats visiting dogs warmly. The distance from downtown Ely is a small downside to staying here. The hotel restaurant is good.
Fresh fast food
The BarnA broad menu of sandwiches and Mexican standards and fresh preparation makes The Barn a good place for a dog-friendly meal. The menu includes vegetarian items, and the staff is happy to customize dishes.
Great dog patio & great pub
Monk's CellarA comfortable, shaded patio, good food and excellent in-house Belgian-style beers, and a dog-loving staff elevate this pub. Unfortunately, road noise can distract from otherwise great atmosphere.
Dog-friendly patio has a great view
Jason's Beachside GrilleThe menu has a variety of sandwiches and entrees, well made though with just a few vegetarian choices. The beer selection is lackluster. Servers are friendly and helpful. A beautiful view of Lake Tahoe and distant mountains from the dog-friendly back deck is the highlight of Jason's Beachside Grille.
Super patio for a group with dogs
San Benito House Garden Deli CafeThe deli and cantina offer good fresh food, a friendly bar, and a great outdoor patio for covered and uncovered group dining including dogs.
Unique South American food
Diego's RestaurantDiego's departs from Mexican standards with its own unique, fresh South American comfort food recipes. Dishes are large enough to share and very tasty. The outdoor patio is a bit cramped but welcoming to dogs. The servers are friendly and attentive, which is challenging given the dinner crowd.
A wide variety of local creations
Three Forks Bakery & Brewing Co.Three Forks has unique fresh sandwiches large enough to share, in-house beer and pastries, and even an excellent mocha. The outdoor dog-friendly seating is currently in a parking lot tent with lightweight tables and chairs.
Nice patio, good sandwiches.
The Cottonwood CafeGood service and fresh tasty sandwiches. Ask at the front for them to open the back patio door for your dog.
Fine for people and dogs
Casa Munras Garden Hotel & SpaCasa Munras rooms are comfortable, clean, and well-appointed. Our single king room was a bit cramped for two people and a large dog, but had plenty of storage and was very nicely maintained. Even with the dog fee and parking charges, the value was good for the quality of accommodations.
Find food & a fine patio
Robin's RestaurantGood service, unusual but excellent dishes, and a first-class dog-friendly patio.
A great pub for dogs and people
Alvarado Street Brewery & GrillAlvarado Street Brewery has good beer, fine pub food, and a large back patio beer garden where patrons and the restaurant staff all are happy to meet a friendly dog. Enter the beer garden from Calle Principal to avoid bringing a dog through the restaurant.
Good for a night
Cambria Palms MotelThe motel room is spartan but clean, with some minor deferred maintenance and unpleasant cool white lighting. It is comfortable for an overnight stay while traveling Highway 1, and welcoming to dogs. Several restaurants with outdoor seating are a short walk away.
