Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton takes the title of Delaware’s best dog-friendly brewery. Fido is welcome to join you inside, where you can try one of the popular big hitters including the 60 Minute IPA or Blue Hen Pilsner. Then, take a walk through the pretty grounds together and enjoy unique sights like the Steampunk Treehouse art installation. Before you head out, visit the gift shop to pick up a flying disc and treat your pup to a bag of Waggies Dog Treats made from Dogfish Head spent grain. If you’re looking for a place to play fetch, stop at Milton’s very own hidden gem, Broadkill Beach.

This cozy home is within walking distance of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and will keep you entertained between visits with a ping pong table, screened-in porch and outdoor fire pit.

Spend a day seaside at Delaware’s most dog-friendly state park, Fenwick Island, where leashed pups are welcome to play in the sand and surf year-round on a section of the beach at the northern dune crossing. They’re allowed on other swimming and sunbathing beaches from September 30 to May 1. Once she’s had all the beach fun she can handle, rent a kayak or paddle board from Island Watersports and float on the calm waters of Little Assawoman Bay, or reserve a pontoon boat and take your water-loving pup out for a sunset cruise.

Relax in comfort at Seaside Inn on Fenwick Island. Each room has its own balcony where Fido can bask in the sun or feel the sea breeze in his fur.

Bring your best friend for a casual coastal convoy around Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes. With six miles of sand and no seasonal restrictions, dogs flock to Delaware’s most dog-friendly attraction during the summer months. The park also contains a number of pet-friendly trails, including Gordons Pond State Park Area, an easy hike that runs by the pond, through a forest and wetlands, and across dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. If you want to get out on the water, book a fishing charter with Katydid Sportfishing, or cruise with your pooch on Cape May Lewes Ferry. Both depart from the Lewes Terminal just outside the park.

Reserve a stay at nearby Heritage Inn and Suites Rehoboth Beach. This popular accommodation offers balcony rooms and is surrounded by grassy places to walk your dog.

Home to over 37 miles of pet-friendly trails, White Clay Creek State Park is a quintessential Delaware park full of creeks, natural vistas, and shady woodlands. The most popular footpath in the park is the top trail to hike with your dog in the state, the Chestnut Hill Trail. This pretty loop between two creeks is nearly four miles long and rated moderate due to the rocky terrain. For a shorter hike, take the cut-off at the halfway point and head back to the trailhead. Don’t forget to check out Judge Morris Estate, a building that dates back to 1790.

Sleep off the day’s exploits at nearby SpringHill Suites Newark Downtown. This comfortable, modern hotel has a convenient pet relief area outside.
