Best Dog-Friendly Brewery

Funky canine illustrations are plastered all over the beers at Flying Dog Brewery, the best dog-friendly brewery in Maryland. Enjoy your Snake Dog IPA, Double Dog Double IPA or other tasty brew on the pet-friendly patio, and browse merch for your mutt including a fashionable leash with an attached bottle opener. The popular brewery also hosts adoption drives on their green space outside. Share a post-brew game of fetch with Fido at Ballenger Creek Dog Park.

Rest and recuperate for round two at Hampton Inn Frederick.

Most Dog-Friendly State Park

Maryland may not seem like an obvious place for breathtaking mountain scenery, but Swallow Falls State Park is far from ordinary. Hike with Fido through the mountains of western Maryland, under canopies of hemlocks to Muddy Creek Falls, a 53-foot waterfall along the Youghiogheny River. You’ll be following in the footsteps of famous travelers like Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Harvey Firestone. On a warm day at Maryland’s most dog-friendly state park, let your pup relax in the cool river water, and bring along a picnic lunch to share with your best friend at one of several picnic tables with grills. You can also take your pooch fishing at the Youghiogheny River Catch and Release Trout Fishing Area. Dogs are allowed at Swallow Falls State Park from Labor Day to Memorial Day.

Pitch a tent or set up your camper at one of 65 wooded sites at Swallow Falls State Park Campground, or lay low at this pet-friendly hideaway. Your canine companion can rest his paws while you relax in the hot tub or snuggle with you around the outdoor fire pit.

Most Dog-Friendly Attraction

Fido will be barking up the right tree at Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore. This beautiful 200-acre haven in the city has a historic mansion at its center, but the grounds at Maryland’s most dog-friendly attraction are the real gem. Full of native trees, sprawling gardens, and pet-friendly trails, it’s a breath of fresh air for people and pups with green thumbs. Share a picnic with your pooch at one of the tables provided, then continue on 3.5 miles of trails through the grounds that take in woods, wildflowers, and bright manicured gardens along the way.

Book a room for the entire pack at the nearby Radisson Hotel Cross Keys Baltimore. This 4-star hotel is surrounded by shady spots for evening strolls before bedtime.

Most Dog-Friendly Campground

Bring Fido to Sun Outdoors Ocean City, Maryland’s most dog-friendly campground, and explore 50 acres of waterfront property along Sinepuxent Bay. In addition to a large, grassy, and fully fenced dog park, this campground and RV park features a dog beach where your water-loving pup can splash leash-free. After a day in the sand and surf, wash your pup at the on-site dog wash. During your stay, visit Assateague National Seashore for a chance to see wild horses. You can also kayak, canoe, or SUP with your pup at Ayers Creek Adventures. Two pets of any size are allowed for no additional fee at campsites, and for an additional fee of $50 per stay in rentals.

Best Dog Park

Fido can slide into the weekend at Locust Point Dog Park at Latrobe Park in Baltimore. Whatever the season, he can play in the fully-fenced park thanks to the astroturf grass at Maryland’s Best Dog Park. When the sun is shining, pups can clamber over trees and rock outcroppings, then cool off by sliding head first down the park’s water slide. Then dry his paws and walk to nearby Diamondback Brewing Company to wet your whistle.

Four-legged ghost hunters can enjoy a night at Admiral Fell Inn. This Fell’s Point neighborhood hotel has a reputation for being one of the most haunted in the country.

Top Trail to Hike With Your Dog

Do you dream of hiking the AT with your best friend? If you don’t feel like trekking all 2,180 miles of the famous thru-hike, Maryland’s best trail to hike with your dog, Annapolis Rock via the Appalachian Trail near Boonsboro is a great way to get a feel for it. This shady walk through the woods is a mix of rocky pathways, stairs, and a soft forest floor. Eventually, it opens up to reveal incredible views across the Cumberland Valley, Greenbrier Lake, and Black Rock Cliff. On the way up, stop for a chat with the trail caretaker at the campsite to find out more about the area’s wildlife. Annapolis Rock is a five-mile hike rated moderately difficult due to steep sections.

Wake up to garden views from the balcony of this Victorian home, where Fido can explore the fenced backyard off leash.

Hummingbird Inn in Easton welcomes dogs to stay in a variety of rooms. The Cambridge Room features a separate sitting area in the Queen Anne turret, and The Easton Room, one of the largest at the inn, is perfect for those traveling with the extended pack. All dogs at Maryland’s best pet-friendly B&B receive bowls and a food tray at check-in, and leashed pups are free to explore the grassy gardens with their owners. Guests who need to make an emergency treat run can even leave Fido with the Hummingbird hosts for just $10 per hour. Don’t forget to go for an afternoon walk with your best friend on nearby Easton Rails-to-Trails.

Hummingbird Inn allows dogs of any size for an additional fee of $20 per pet, per night.

Can’t Miss Dog Event

Pooch Palooza Dog Festival in Berlin, MD is a day-long event entirely focused on fun for Fido and it’s Maryland’s can’t miss dog event. Does your pup want to give dock diving a try? Or maybe you think he’d be a total ace at lure chasing. Agile canines will surely want to dash over to the FastFetch game. If your furry best friend is a little less spry, he may prefer to enter the dog cover model search, the canine pie eating contest, the costume contest, or the tennis ball lottery.

Afterward, head up the coast to nearby Ocean City, MD. Grab a bite to eat at one of the best beachfront eateries in the country, Macky's Bayside Bar & Grill, then spend the night in a pet-friendly room at The Safari Motel Boardwalk.
