Best Dog-Friendly Brewery

New Jersey has become one of the fastest growing brewery scenes in the country, and Cape May’s Cold Spring Brewery is the best place in The Garden State to grab a brew with your pooch. Housed in a restored 1804 English-style barn, dogs are welcome inside to enjoy the ambient surroundings or outside at a picnic table on the lawn. Don’t drive away without taking a tour of the 27 restored, 19th-century structures around Historic Cold Spring Village with your leashed pup.

Salty sea dogs will love playing off leash in The Captain's Sea Cabin fenced backyard.

Most Dog-Friendly State Park

Most people think of a state park as a wilderness area teeming with wildlife and hiking trails, not views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline. At Liberty State Park, that’s exactly what you’ll find. This green oasis in the heart of Jersey City features a two-mile promenade with stunning views, wide open fields, and miles of dog-friendly pathways, making it New Jersey’s most dog-friendly state park. While you’re there, stop by the ‘Empty Sky’ 9/11 Memorial, stroll along the self-guided nature path in the 36-acre Richard J. Sullivan Natural Area, and break for a picnic overlooking the Hudson River.

Wake up to views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island when you stay at a campsite at Liberty Harbor Marina and RV Park. If you want to experience Manhattan living with your mutt, make your way through the Holland Tunnel to the Roxy Hotel Tribeca.

Most Dog-Friendly Attraction

Longport Dog Beach in Egg Harbor Township is The Garden State’s best pet-friendly attraction. This stretch of sand goes by many names, including Somers Point Dog Beach, Malibu Beach, and plain old Dog Beach, but your pooch will soon refer to it as his favorite place. Situated in the Malibu Beach Wildlife Management Area, this huge windswept area is a great place to meet other pups who love nothing more than digging in the sand and paddling in the surf next to Ocean Drive Bridge.

Join the PAWS program at Sonesta ES Suites Somers Point and receive beds, bowls, waterproof mats, and treats to use during your stay.

Most Dog-Friendly Campground

At Sun Outdoors Cape May, the most dog-friendly campground in The Garden State, Fido can mingle with other pups and burn off energy at the on-site, fenced dog park. There’s plenty of grass and room to roam, as well as shaded benches for humans along the perimeter. While you’re here, don’t miss the 15-minute drive to Wildwood Dog Beach. Where else can your pup romp in the waves and hike his leg on a 30-foot-tall fire hydrant? Check Sun Outdoors Cape May’s event calendar for a list of daily activities and theme weekends. If you're visiting near the end of summer, try to plan your trip around the resort's annual Pooch Plunge on the last day of their pool season.

Best Dog Park

Get to know The Garden State’s great outdoors at Timber Creek Pooch Park in Blackwood. This top canine hangout in New Jersey encompasses nine fenced acres at the center of a 60-acre wooded park. Hike with your hound on sandy trails that weave through the woods towards a small pond area, where dogs can paddle easily thanks to the sloping sides and shallow waters. Leashed pups are also allowed on the trails around the rest of the park. Other amenities include benches, water stations and shady places to relax.

Rest up after a day at the dog park at Holiday Inn Express Voorhees Mt. Laurel and grab dinner and a drink on the dog-friendly patio of Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant.

Top Trail to Hike With Your Dog

Mount Tammany is the southernmost peak in the Kittatinny Mountains, a stretch of the Appalachian range found in New Jersey. Mount Tammany: Red Dot and Blue Dot Loop Trail will deliver you and your Terrier to the top of this magnificent mountain, and it’s the top trail to hike with your dog in New Jersey. The Red Dot Trail offers incredible views of The Delaware Water Gap, a stretch of the Delaware River on the New Jersey and Pennsylvania border. The descent down the Blue Dot Trail is a more gradual decline with a swimming hole where pups can cool off. This tricky trail is just over 3.5 miles and rated as difficult due to rocky terrain and a steep climb at the start.

After a day of strenuous hiking, enjoy the seclusion of the Glenwood Home. This historic vacation rental has 50 acres of outdoor space for you and your dog to sniff out together.

The owners are dog lovers, and all of the rooms are decorated with canine-themed ornaments. The result is charmingly homey, so you may feel like you’re sleeping over at grandma’s house. Spend an afternoon lounging on the front porch, walk four blocks to the beach, or let Fido play with the other pet guests in the fenced yard. Pups are welcome to stay in all room types.

Peace, Love and Pups. Each September, Home for Good Dogs Rescue hosts a two-day Woofstock Food and Music Festival for four-legged flower children and their people. Enjoy live music all day, food trucks, craft vendors, beer and wine, children’s activities and best of all, dog adoptions. During New Jersey's can't miss dog event, festivalgoers can enter to win cool raffle prizes or the jackpot from the 50/50 raffle. Proceeds benefit the Home for Good Dogs Rescue.

After day one, recuperate at the Sonesta Hamilton Park Morristown Hotel nearby. Fido will enjoy the PAWS amenity package and you’ll both get a good night’s rest so you’re refreshed for the second day of the festival.
