Drekker Brewing Co. in Fargo brews batches of beer for “the viking in all of us.” Fido can join you inside and out while you savor a Chonk Spumoni sour ale or Pample Mouse IPA at North Dakota’s best dog-friendly brewery. He might even snag a nibble of your leftovers from one of the visiting food trucks. As soon as you feel fueled up, experience a different kind of flight at Fargo Air Museum. You can hang out with your hound inside two hangars at this pet-friendly aviation museum.

The nearby Candlewood Suites Fargo N Dakota State University won’t break the bank for a comfortable stay.

Located on the bluffs of the north shore of Lake Sakakawea, Fort Stevenson State Park provides breathtaking views year-round. Bring your history “ruff” to learn about the park’s military past, and walk along nearly 10 miles of pet-friendly trails through grasslands, woodlands, and native prairie. Let your pooch loose at the on-site dog park, unpack a picnic in scenic surroundings, and rent a kayak, paddle boat or stand-up paddle board if you want to spend the day on the lake. In winter, cold-weather pups can join you for skijoring, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing at North Dakota’s most dog-friendly state park.

Friendly dogs are allowed to join you around the campfire at the Fort Stevenson State Park Campground. If you prefer a dog-friendly Airbnb, this Early Bird Retreat in nearby Coleharbor has a fenced backyard.

The International Peace Garden in Dunseith is a living tribute to world peace and North Dakota’s most dog-friendly attraction. This 2,339-acre pet-friendly park is accessible to visitors from both Canada and the U.S. without the need of a puppy passport. Over 150,000 flowers are planted in the formal garden every spring, with mid-July through August being the best time to visit. The main paved trail meanders around the park’s colorful displays, which include American and Canadian flags made out of flowers. If you get hungry, your canine can join you at the garden’s cafe on the pet-friendly patio.

Keep the peaceful vibes flowing at the Old Creek Granary, a quiet home in nearby Bottineau. The home has hard surface flooring for easy cleanup and a private backyard for leashed strolls.

Fido can join you on the 1.5-mile trail system, or in a paddle boat, canoe, or kayak rental for a float down the Park River at North Dakota’s most dog-friendly campground. If that’s not enough to wear him out, let him loose just a few blocks away at Happy Tails Bark Park, which includes Big Paws Field for large dogs and Wiggly Field for small pups. Pets of any size are permitted at campsites for no additional fee and in cabins for an additional fee of $5 per pet, per night.
