Posted by Lauren Barker Suggest an edit

The temperature is rising, flowers and trees are blooming, and Fido is ready to come out of his winter slumber. Spring is in the air, and that means we can say goodbye to Old Man Winter and focus on the exciting events lined up in the coming months. From shamrocks to pickles, we think you and your pup will dig these dog-friendly spring festivals.

Don’t let Fido get pinched for not wearing green! Dress him up before celebrating at Freedom First St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Shamrock Festival. The Corned Beef & Co. Celtic Celebration will kick off the day, followed by Martin's Downtown St. Pat's Street Party. Humans can enjoy Irish-themed food and drink specials and nearly a dozen bands on two stages, and four-legged festival-goers can meet new friends and receive pets instead of pinches. Freedom First St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Shamrock Festival will be held March 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Roanoke, and the parade begins at 11. Admission is free.

After the festivities, keep the “pawty” going with a stay at the nearby, pet-friendly Home2 Suites by Hilton Roanoke.

Pickle enthusiasts and their pups are invited to attend the In a Pickle Festival outside of San Antonio. The festival kicks off with the St. Patty's Pickle 5K and Kid Run, followed by a market of over 140 vendors with pickle-themed items. Humans will be treated to pickle-flavored snacks like popcorn, ice cream, lemonade and cotton candy, and children and adults can participate in the pickle-eating and juice-drinking contests. Meanwhile, Fido can compete for his own prizes in the Pickled Pet Parade, where furry patrons dress in pickle-themed attire. Dogs are welcome to be spectators at most events throughout the festival, including bull riding, pickleball and listening to live local bands. The festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 15 at the Comal County Fairgrounds. Admission is $10 per person.

Take all your pickle purchases back to your pet-friendly room at Hacienda del Rio.

Fido can join you on a hike, kayak or stand-up paddleboard between races or make new friends at the onsite dog park, Whitewater Off Leash.
