Perfect overnight stay
Super 8 by Wyndham SavannahWanted to stay near I-95 exits to Savannah, saw good reviews for this place and gave it a shot. Exceeded expectations. Very clean, HUGE room, quiet, courteous staff, good space for walking the dog, fair price and reasonable pet fee. Good and varied eating options nearby. Breakfast offerings were minimal but a small negative versus the many positives. Would definitely stay here again.
Comfortable and pleasant
Quality Inn New River GorgeA comfortable, generic motel room. Staff was friendly, location convenient, reasonable pet fee, plenty of space to walk the dog at the border of the facility. Near the highway but couldn't hear it in the room. Bar-and-grill on premises, plenty of local color and convenient for wetting the whistle or eating if you don't want to drive anywhere (I had a monstrous order of good ribs, a weekly special, for $15). Above-average breakfast offerings for a motel of this type. Would definitely return.
Fantastic
Genetti Hotel SureStay Collection by Best WesternThe hotel is a time warp, in the most positive sense, it feels like you're in a bygone era in terms of amenities and helpfulness from the staff but it's been restored and modernized in terms of creature comforts. The best of both worlds. The room was spacious and comfortable, the free breakfast buffet had extensive quality offerings in a nicely restored setting. The hotel is downtown, in the middle of a restored area with multiple modern eat/drink options within a block or two at the most, so the dog walking is urban (as in paved, save for the designated mulched area in back of the hotel that was covered with snow in early February but Buster did just fine, he likes lamp posts). All of the staff in the hotel was very dog-friendly. And to top it all off, our room was actually a little bit cheaper than several generic motel options nearby. I'd give a 10-bone rating if I could.
Great stay, excellent value
Candlewood Suites Winchester an IHG HotelOur stay couldn't have been better: spacious room with kitchenette, close to I-81 but far enough removed to be quiet, ALL rooms pet friendly, friendly and helpful staff, very fair room price, and only a $12 pet fee. (Space for dog walking is a bit limited, but I'm quibbling here). This is the fourth place we've stayed in Winchester and hands down our favorite, sorry we didn't find it sooner. It's our go-to from now on.
Still A Pretty Nice Place, BUT....
Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Orangeburg SCThird time we've stayed here, still a decent place with minor problems (one time the air conditioner didn't work, this time the inside handle to the room door fell off each time we used it), and third time in a row with check-in problems: first two times, the hotel had no record that we had requested a pet friendly room (so much for BringFido's vaunted "canine concierge"), this time they did but had no record that we'd paid for the room in advance through BringFido. After 20 minutes at the front desk and showing the desk clerk an email indicating that we'd paid, we were allowed to get a room, although that took some convincing before she'd allow us to do so.
The supply of pet-friendly motels in the region is limited and the facilities are pretty good despite the small glitches, but don't expect everything to go smoothly.
Always a great stay
Best Western Staunton InnThis was the 7th time we've stayed at the BW Staunton Inn and it was as good as always. Nothing fancy, just a decent clean room for a very good price (no extra charge for up to two dogs!), quiet location, easy access to I-81, a short drive into town where there's a broad range of good places to eat (or get take-away under the current conditions), and always very friendly and helpful staff. I wish I could say the above for more places that we stay. Highly recommended if these are the features you're looking for.
Great room, great location
Spark By Hilton WinchesterThis was our second stay at the hotel, will definitely stay again the next time we're coming through. Large clean room, excellent location (close to I-81 but far enough not to hear it; also very short drive to historic downtown and eateries). Plenty of grassy area to walk the dog, fair price for the quality provided.
